Position Description

The Department of English at the University of Mississippi seeks an Assistant Professor of English for the Ottilie Schillig Chair, an endowed, full-time, permanent position with a 2/2 teaching load. A successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and assist with directing graduate theses and dissertations. 

Qualifications:

The department invites applications from candidates with publication and teaching experience in literatures and writing of the 20th and 21st centuries, including British, American, Global Anglophone, and/or Transnational traditions in literature. Those with additional interests in disability studies and medical humanities, environmental studies, new media, multiethnic literatures, and/or digital narratives and humanities are especially encouraged to apply.

The Schillig Chair will teach in the Department of English, which has thriving literary studies and top-ranked creative writing programs. Faculty in the Department of English have the opportunity to work interdisciplinarily with the Isom Center for Women’s and Gender Studies, the Prison-to-College Pipeline, the Sally Barksdale Honors College, the Center for the Study of Southern Literature, the university’s program in African American Studies, and a variety of other programs.

Position Details

Appointment : 9 Month

Assignment Type: Tenure Track 

Minimum Qualifications

PhD in English or related discipline is required: successful completion, including defense, of the doctoral dissertation prior to the start date of employment is also required. Candidates should demonstrate a record of current and future potential strength in scholarship and excellence in teaching, as well as a commitment to teaching a diverse student body.

Applications must include a cover letter, writing sample, cv, and at least three letters of reference. Some candidates may be asked at a later date to submit additional materials, such as a teaching portfolio.
