PAC 248: Swim: Non-swimmer is offered every term on a for-credit and non-credit basis. The course provides students and participants with the skills for self-rescue, fundamental skills in swimming and safety, and is designed for people with a fear of water. The course is limited to 16 students and is taught by an academic faculty instructor and a PAC Teaching Assistant and supervised by a certified lifeguard at all times.

This is a pooled posting. Applications submitted to this recruitment pool are reviewed on an as needed basis. Qualified candidates will be contacted when positions become available through the academic year.

We are currently hiring for the 2024-2025 academic year for 1 to 2 teaching assistants for 2-4 hours per week.

The intent of the PAC Program is to provide quality instruction in safe, adequately equipped facilities and to create a positive, enjoyable learning environment.

The PAC Teaching Assistant position will serve as an integral member of the PAC Program team, where each instructor plays a specific role to the larger organization. Recognizing individual interests and abilities, the program provides courses covering a wide variety of physical activities.

We make an effort to address contemporary trends and student interests. Courses offered through the PAC Program may include but are not limited to classes in the Activity Areas of: Aquatics, Artistic & Social dance, Aerobics & Fitness Development, Martial arts, Mind/body, Outdoor Recreation, Resistance training, Sports, Yoga and Games. Position Duties

The PAC Teaching Assistant will work directly with and under the supervision of the academic faculty instructor to teach the course, working in the pool for the duration of the class, and working directly with students. The PAC Teaching Assistant will have two to three meetings before and during the term with the faculty instructor to discuss the curriculum and planning for the course.

PAC 248 is offered during Fall, Winter and Spring terms. One to two sections of the course are offered, totaling two to four hours per week of work for the PAC Teaching Assistant. In Spring term, the PAC Program and FSF Program typically offer short-duration non-credit community non-swimmer courses that the PAC Teaching Assistant would assist with, consisting of four to six 90-minute pool sessions.

PAC Teaching Assistants are expected to attend PAC Program All Staff Meetings, which are typically one to two hours at the start of Fall term.

The PAC Teaching Assistant will not have access to student information, access to grades, or be involved in the assignment of grades for the course.
