PURPOSE OF CONSULTANCY

This requisition is for a consultancy at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Lepra – 26 January 2026 to 18 December 2026

The consultant will provide specialized technical support to the Neglected, Tropical, and Vector-Borne Diseases Unit (VT) within PAHO’s Communicable Diseases Department (CDE) during 2026. The role focuses on consolidating regional information, strengthening surveillance processes, producing epidemiological analyses, supporting medicine donation procedures, and assisting documentation processes toward leprosy elimination.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Purpose of Consultancy: To deliver analytical, technical, and coordination support for regional leprosy activities, contributing to improved surveillance, elimination processes, and medicine donation procedures.

The consultant will be responsible for producing six key deliverables:

1. Regional consolidated technical report of 2025 activities: A comprehensive report summarizing technical and programmatic work conducted during 2025, including key achievements, challenges, and strategic elements supporting regional cooperation and donor-related reporting.

Regional report on actions to strengthen integration and reporting of leprosy and other NTD data: A summary of actions undertaken to enhance integration, harmonization, and reporting processes related to leprosy and other NTDs, including recommendations to improve data flows and information quality.

3. Report on consolidation and follow-up of 2025 epidemiological data: A report summarizing the organization, consolidation, and review of epidemiological data from the 2025 cycle, highlighting progress and opportunities for improvement.

4. Technical report on leprosy medicine donation process for 2027 cycle: A summary of the technical review of country requests, programmatic needs, observations, and recommendations for the leprosy medicine donation cycle.

5. Updated regional epidemiological analysis based on 2025 data: A regional analysis synthesizing validated 2025 data, major trends, and strategic recommendations for 2026–2027.

6. Report on follow-up of leprosy elimination documentation in at least three countries: A summary of technical support provided to countries engaged in preparing elimination documentation, identifying progress, gaps, and alignment with international standards.

Education:

• Essential: Health professional from a recognized institution.
• Desirable: Advanced university degree (master’s level or above) in public health, epidemiology, or a related health discipline.

Experience:

• Essential: Minimum 9 years of combined national and international experience in NTDs, including leprosy.
• Desirable: Experience with PAHO/WHO, UN agencies, ministries of health, or international partners.

Technical knowledge/skills:

• Epidemiological analysis and surveillance systems
• Programmatic coordination and reporting
• Strong analytical and communication skills
