This position will provide high quality advanced life support including response and treatment utilizing standards and guidelines established within the paramedic scope of practice, assisting the Employee Health Services (EHS) Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and Nursing staff. The opportunity is located onsite at our pharmaceutical client partner location in Durham NC, and the hours are 2:30 pm to 11:30 pm Monday thru Friday. The ideal candidate should be competent responding to onsite emergencies. Paramedic or PHRN experience is preferred.
- Respond to all injuries or illness of employees in the workplace and provide evaluation and treatment of injured individuals as appropriate.
- Provide emergency care as allowed under written protocols and scope of practice, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), oxygen, bandaging and splinting to patients.
- Phlebotomy and medication administration as needed.
- Document and record nature of injuries and treatment provided.
- Triage acute injury and illness according to protocols to the most appropriate level of care.
- Measuring and recording vital signs and other health metrics
- Documenting employee patient interactions in electronic medical record
- Assisting with exams, basic first aid, and preventative medical care
- Knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used.
- Lead other first responders during emergency or injury care.
- Support the company’s AED program and ensure compliance with company and local requirements for these devices.
- Assist with OSHA-regulated and company-designated quality examinations as determined by the medical oversight physician.
- Assisting with other employee health services duties and functions as determined by the medical oversight physician.

Summary:
Works as a member of the Emergency Department clinical team. The paramedic collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to provide appropriate age specific care in compliance with standards of practice in the hospital or urgent care setting. The paramedic will provide care to patients under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician. A physician will provide oversight for clinical practice. Skill set approved by NC-OEMS will be utilized.
Responsibilities:
Takes directions from nurse, physician and/or advanced practice provider to implement prescribed therapies within scope of practice.
Provides rapid evaluation of presenting patients and communicates to the care team the patient; 1⁄2s required needs/care.
Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes based on these priorities.
Maintains a safe, therapeutic and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting and professional behavior.
Acts as a patient advocate.
Communicates effectively to promote sharing of information.
Utilizes triage skills to assist in prioritizing of incoming ED patients.
Performs basic data collection, prepares patient for exam and communicates findings to primary and/or charge nurse.
Facilitates blood draw and starting of IVs based on orders and in coordination with primary/triage nurse.
Works to their paramedic license; does not give narcotics or perform intubations.
Transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher as needed throughout facility.
Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Education Requirements:
- Completion of OEMS approved training & competency program for Paramedic and current North Carolina Paramedic Certification required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
- Certification in BCLS, ACLS, PALS.
Professional Experience Requirements:
- Six months experience in a pre-hospital environment as a Paramedic required.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
- Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to understand, communicate and react effectively and appropriately to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Incumbent must demonstrate clinical competence per the position’s Skills Checklist before being allowed to perform independently.
