Paramedic Flight – PRN Variable Hours/Air Transport

The Paramedic Flight provides pre-hospital and inter-facility care, basic, advanced and critical care to the patient requiring air MEDVAC transportation. The Flight Paramedic assesses injuries, administers emergency medical care, and may extricate trapped individuals. Emergency medical skills are performed according to protocol set forth by the medical director (physician), and authorized by regulations of the Department of Health Regulatory Board, as well as Blue Ridge Emergency Medical Service Council. This job requires twelve (12) and twenty-four (24) hour shifts.

Gathers and submits appropriate patient data necessary for continued treatment

Assesses nature and extent of illness / injury to establish and prioritize medical care

Completes reimbursement documentation and submits at the end of every shift

Performs routine maintenance checks daily, such as fluids, tires, general working operations of lights, sirens, radios, etc. and reports any issues to supervisor and maintenance technician

Serves on committees

Assists unit staff in answering calls, ordering and procuring supplies or equipment, and requesting services

Apply and share new knowledge, skills, and information at work

Responds to organizational emergency situations as required

Performs a variety of outreach and educational activities in addition to flight related responsibilities

The Paramedic Flight ALS V provides pre-hospital care, basic, advanced and critical care to the patient requiring air MEDVAC transportation. The Paramedic Flight ALS V assesses injuries, administers emergency medical care, and may extricate trapped individuals

Participates in continuing education and job-related in services obtaining a minimum of hours of continuing education each year

Responds to patient and other Centra department’s requests for assistance promptly

Checks assigned vehicle at the beginning of every shift and documents findings on the vehicle check list

Works minimum hours annually

Provides continuing education classes annually

May perform other duties as assigned or requested and job specification can be modified or updated at any time

Required Education: Associates Degree in Healthcare or related field

Preferred Education: Bachelors Degree in Healthcare or related field

Required Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of current prehospital field experience as a Paramedic

Preferred Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of current prehospital field experience as a Paramedic

Required Certifications and Licensures: Virginia Paramedic certification American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support VAVRS or VDFP EVOC. Must recertify every five (5) years. FEMA ICS 100, 200, and 700PHTLS or ITLS AMLS within the first year of employment. Hazardous Materials Awareness within the first year of employment. Neonatal Resuscitation Program within first year of employment. Instructor Certification through American Heart Association, Virginia office of EMS, Virginia Department of Fire Programs, or Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads. The instructor certification must be in one of the following areas: EMT, CPR, EVOC, Hazardous Materials Awareness, or another healthcare field deemed appropriate by the Transport Supervisor and Manager. Complete internal Advanced Practice training and are cleared to run as an Advanced Practice Paramedic by the OMD Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic Certified

Preferred Certifications and Licensures: National Registry Paramedic. Current trauma certification (PHTLS or ITLS). Auditing of an advanced trauma course (ATLS, TNCC)
