We are seeking dynamic and compassionate educators to join our Night ESL Program as a Distance Learning English as a New Language (ENL) Teachers. This pivotal role will empower refugees, immigrants, and native-born English language learners to achieve their academic and life goals. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment where students gain the English language skills and thematic content that will help be active civic-minded community members. This teacher will work 20 hours a week, 4 hours a day, Monday through Friday, in the morning program sessions. This program will be housed at the Westside Learning Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Employ culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices that foster diversity, equity, and belonging, ensuring all students feel valued, represented, and empowered to succeed in a safe and supportive learning environment.
Building English Language Proficiency by supporting acomprehensive ENL curriculum focused on systematically developing students’ reading, writing, listening, speaking, and vocabulary skills through thematic instruction, incorporating cultural awareness and fostering a civic-minded community member.
Teacher will be responsible for planning and tutoring students within NYSED Requirements.
Provide targeted instruction in Best Plus oral language assessment and Best Literacy reading and writing utilizing language practice, testing language and test-taking strategies to ensure students can demonstrate skills needed to meet the benchmarks.
Provide individual, partnership, and small group support to students who need additional help, including targeted interventions for specific language or thematic ESL areas.
Continuously assess students’ English language proficiency and content knowledge using a variety of formal and informal assessment tools, utilizing the data to inform instruction and tailor individualized learning plans for each student.
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of student attendance, grades, assessment results, and individualized learning plans, utilizing both digital and physical systems to track progress and inform instructional decisions.
Collaborate with other teachers, counselors, administrators, and community partners to provide comprehensive support for ENL students.
Being a strong advocate for the needs of ENL students and working to ensure they have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices in ENL instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, Special Education, or an educationally related field.
Strong understanding of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices.
Passion for working with students from diverse backgrounds and urban settings.
