REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education

JOB DECRIPTION: This part-time, 5 day a week, ESL Case Manager position will support new and returning English language learners with intake, orientation, and daily programmatic supports. This position requires someone who has the ability to positively communicate and interact with refugees, immigrants and native-born English language learners who are seeking to learn English language, civics and have other opportunities to better themselves. The case manager in this position will work with a team who will enroll, test and place students, and support daily needs. Responsibilities may change from day to day based on programmatic needs at the Westside Learning Center.

JOB RESPONIBILITIES:

• Work with team to complete intake, orientation, and testing of students in classroom and pods on new and returning students.
• Assess students on BEST Plus and Literacy Assessments and inform educators of student gaps in language and thematic content.
• Identify students’ educational barriers to success and create individual plans of success.
• Work with team to identify students’ personal barriers to help them stabilize needs when transitioning back into the community and workforce.
• Support community-based organization collaborations that SCSD and Adult Education partner with for the betterment of students, staff, and the local community.
• Support cultural and adult education events that build a stronger sense of culture and community norms.
• Understand and honor the diversity, equity and belonging (DEB) of students’ backgrounds, languages and individuality in our community and classes and incorporate them into the educational experience.
• Attend 14 hours of RAEN professional development as required by NYSED.
• Obtain and maintain NYSED adult certification unless person has NYSED K-12 certification.
• Case manager will perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATION:

• NYS K-12 certification preferred
• Or Adult Education certified
• Bi-lingual (Spanish, Arabic, preferred)

SALARY: $31,800 as per Unit 1 contract
