Part-Time Instructor in the Literature Program (English Department)

The Literature Program at the University of Pittsburgh welcomes applications for part-time, non-tenure stream teaching positions. Position appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.
Responsibilities: The Literature program invites applications for part-time instructor positions open to candidates who are robust generalists with an ability to teach a range of genres at the introductory level. We prize candidates who can design syllabuses that are centered on an intellectual problem, a critical question, or an important theme that draws out key features and conventions of literary texts and also encourages students to connect these issues to their own intellectual life. We look for dynamic and creative course design innovative assignments and evidence of adaptability to changing curricular needs. Curricular needs may include: game studies courses, courses in popular genres; or courses that introduce students to poetry, drama, and multiple prose forms.
Required: MA or higher degree required; terminal degree (MFA, PhD, etc.) preferred. Preferred qualifications include a record of superior academic or professional performance; the ability to develop engaging courses that meet established learning goals; excellent communication skills, both oral and written; and a demonstrated ability to interact efficiently with diverse people in a multidisciplinary environment.
