Patient Care Associate – Thoracic Surgery & Vascular Surgery – Ellison 19

Why This Role Is Important?

Ellison 19- Thoracic Surgery & Vascular Surgery is a thirty-bed adult inpatient unit caring for a wide variety of surgical patients. Our patients are primarily complex thoracic, vascular and laryngeal patients requiring postoperative care and airway management. Thoracic Surgeries include lung resections, esophagus surgery, tracheal resections and reconstruction surgeries. The Vascular population includes aortic grafting, limb amputations and carotid surgery. The Ellison 19 team is expert at the care of both of these populations. Under the direction of a registered nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) assists the multi-disciplinary health care team in clinical support functions to promote a safe, compassionate patient care environment. Ellison 19 is seeking a PCA, with Day and Night availability.

Schedule 

• Day (7am-7pm, 7am-3pm), and Night (11pm-7am, 7pm-7am) 
• Every other holiday and weekend schedule

What are we looking for?

• PCA assists patients with daily living needs, monitoring & reading vital signs, drawing blood, and obtaining EKGs. 
• Responds to patient requests in a timely manner, safeguarding patient confidentiality, monitoring patient safety, and always communicating in a respectful manner. 
• Effective customer service orientation and the ability to interact with diverse groups of patients, staff and providers.
• Demonstrated ability to solve basic patient and practice problems using a combination of strong interpersonal and communication skills, attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
• Ability to lift and transport patients, using the appropriate physical technique, in a safe manner for the patient and self.

Qualifications

• Required: Must have recent experience, and/or training, in clinical patient care.
• Preferred: Licensed, certified, or enrolled student in a Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Mental Health Technician, or EMT accredited program, at the time of hire, OR
• Candidate enrolled in a Nursing, Pre-Med, PA undergraduate program, with at least one semester of patient care rotations completed, at time of hire.
