To participate in a team model that is dedicated to the delivery of cardiovascular medicine care for patients followed by Vascular Surgery, Venous Health/ Peripheral Artery Disease providers in the Outpatient Setting.

  • Pre-operative and Return Visit Clinic Prep
  • Monitoring Faxes/Paperwork/Scanning
  • Pending referrals/test orders and processing referrals/test orders in accordance to written protocols per approved physician delegated protocol.
  • Urgent outside Record Retrieval
  • Coordinate external diagnostic testing/follow up testing at outside hospitals
  • Disability Paperwork
  • FMLA paperwork
  • Ad-hoc Scheduling (urgent, overbook of a patient, etc.)
  • Lab Reminders/result retrieval
  • Accurate handling of miscellaneous forms: return to work, clearance letter, home care orders/authorizations, DME prescription request, dental prophylactic antibiotic recommendations, anticoagulation recommendations
  • Other general office functions including verbal and written communication with patients and families.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • High School diploma or an equivalent combination of education
  • Minimum of three to five years of previous experience in clinical and clerical health care setting is required.
  • Excellent phone management and customer service skills, including telephone triage is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Willingness and openness to new ideas and processes that improve patient care.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel and ability to navigate between systems.
  • Understands and demonstrates the core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC), including: Respect and Dignity, Information Sharing, Participation, and Collaboration.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
  • Prior experience performing complex scheduling.
  • Familiarity with obtaining medical records or professional billing.
  • Financial counseling experience for healthcare patients.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Demonstrated active listening, verbal, written, and information technology skills.
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule with a rotating shift between 8am-5pm
  • Previous office-based experience working in health care, preferably with an EPIC institution 
  • Any experience working with surgical patient population
  • Experience assisting with completion of patient forms, i.e. Disability, FMLA, Clearance.
  • Experience with patient care coordination, testing, appointments, labs etc.
  • Experience working within a large, complex health care setting.  
  • Familiarity with UMHS electronic medical record systems.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Shift/Days:  Between 8:00-5:00, Monday-Friday / 40 hour week.
