About the PositionThis position independently researches and resolves consumer complaints involving licensed insurance companies and responds to consumer inquiries regarding insurance issues. This includes time spent answering phone calls to the Consumer Hotline, helping in-person consumers with questions, as well as communicating via email, web-based applications, and participating in outreach events.We are looking for someone who:

DUTIESThe duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing the highest level of customer service by seeing cases through to their full conclusion while following the agency’s quality control standards.
  • Researching and reviewing consumer complaints, analyzing carrier responses to the complaints for compliance with appropriate laws and advocating for consumers when appropriate.
  • Documenting complaints and inquiries in the agency database with adequate case detail supported by clear, concise and timely comments.
  • Writing clear letters with appropriate detail and explanations to both insurers and consumers.
  • Staffing the Consumer Hotline.
  • Educating the public, their representatives, or industry members regarding insurance or insurance related issues.
  • Speaking to audiences inside and outside the agency on insurance-related matters.

QUALIFICATIONSRequired Qualifications:Six years of full-time or equivalent professional work experience* in one or more of the following: 1) ensuring compliance with governmental statutory and regulatory requirements, 2) working as an investigator or negotiator handling consumer or contractual-related issues, or 3) professional work in one or more lines of insurance.ANDOne year experience in a consumer call center answering consumer questions and complaints about products, services, laws, regulations, and offering advice or referral services to assist consumers with their questions or complaints.ANDBasic-level experience using Microsoft Word and Outlook.*Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent, involving major study in business administration, public administration, insurance administration or related field will substitute year for year of professional work experience.Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience collecting data, conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research and analyzing results to make an informed decision or conclusion.
  • Intermediate-level experience using Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Fluent verbal communication skills in Spanish, Korean, Russian, Vietnamese, Mandarin, or Cantonese, with the ability to score “Advanced Mid skill level” on the oral proficiency assessment by the American Council for the Testing of Foreign Languages.
