This position is located in the Pharmacy Department of the SW Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings, Louisiana.

Full-time appointment is available. The Pharmacist 5-A positions starting pay is $54.29 per hour depending upon experience.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice pharmacy plus four years of experience as a licensed pharmacist.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

A master’s degree in pharmacy will substitute for one year of the required experience.

A doctorate in pharmacy will substitute for two years of the required experience.

Completion of an accredited pharmacy residency program will substitute for two years of the required experience.

Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

NOTE:

Positions may require additional experience or accreditation based on compliance with institutional pharmacy regulations.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To serve as the sole licensed pharmacist and pharmacist-in-charge within a facility’s pharmacy.

NOTE:

The pharmacist-in-charge is defined by Section 1105 of Title 46 of the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy law.

Level of Work:

Program Manager.

Supervision Received:

Broad direction from a higher-level agency official.

Supervision Exercised:

May supervise pharmacy technicians and/or other support staff.

Location of Work:

May be used by all state agencies.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from the Pharmacist 3 by the presence of serving as a pharmacist-in-charge.

Differs from the Pharmacist 4 by the absence of exercising direct supervision over professional pharmacist or equivalent-level positions.

Differs from the Pharmacist 5-B by the absence of serving as the pharmacist-in-charge and exercising supervision over lower-level pharmacists or equivalent-level positions.

Examples of Work

Responsible for assuring the pharmacy’s continuing permit status and for meeting the pharmacy’s portion of licensing/certification/accreditation standards for the facilities it serves.

Direct pharmacy operations for a hospital, outpatient clinic, correctional facility, developmental center, or similar facility.

Develops, implements, and audits pharmacy policies, procedures, and work methods.

Plans pharmacy purchasing, storage, and dispensing.

Recommends and coordinates purchase of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.

Establishes and reviews drug auditing criteria, drug interactions, drug therapy and dosages.

Develops and recommends specifications for pharmacy equipment purchases.

Maintains and updates the formulary.

Prepare statistical reports and budget requests.

Assure the availability of medical emergency supplies, drugs, and pharmaceutical services.

Establish quality control criteria and audits for compliance to ensure program effectiveness.
