The
Public Health Department is accepting applications to fill one full-time, Pharmacist-In-Charge vacancy at the Lompoc Health Care Center Pharmacy.
We are also accepting applications to establish an employment list for future Full-Time, Part-Time, Extra Help and 1414* vacancies for Pharmacist-In-Charge in Lompoc, Santa Maria, Carpinteria, and Santa Barbara. The employment list will also be utilized by the Department of Behavioral Wellness (BWELL) for future vacancies.

POSITION:
Under general direction of the Pharmacy Supervisor, the Pharmacist-In-Charge ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations for a single pharmacy; compounds and dispenses prescribed medications; may provide functional supervision of professional, paraprofessional, and support staff; and performs related duties as required.
About the Program: The Public Health Department Pharmacies are crucial partners of the physician and provider community in the provision of quality health care. The Pharmacy Program fills approximately 90,000 prescriptions at three different locations for patients each year. Our pharmacists provide counseling services on the importance of medication compliance and have oversight of indigent related programs, such as patient assistance medication programs and the 340B programs.
The Pharmacy Program utilizes robotics at two of the pharmacies and workflow techniques to increase safety and decrease wait times. The accuracy rates of the pharmacy programs have been documented to be greater than 99%. CLICK HERE to learn more about the Public Health Department Pharmacy program.

Knowledge of: inventory control; the compounding of prescriptions and stock pharmaceutical preparations; pharmaceutical chemistry and manufacturing methods; drugs, chemicals, and pharmaceutical supplies required in the operation of a pharmacy; state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the legal operation of a pharmacy; medical record keeping requirements and procedures; the use and dispensing of narcotics and poisons.
Ability to: learn modern pharmacy management, including accounting procedures within medical payment/reimbursement programs; learn to assign, prioritize, and evaluate the work of others; learn to develop and implement operational procedures; collect and analyze data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations; maintain accurate records and document actions taken; make arithmetical calculations; maintain confidentiality of information; understand, interpret, explain, and comply with laws, regulations, and policies governing pharmacy operations; compound a wide variety of drugs and medicines and maintain appropriate related records; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with fellow medical professionals and patients; develop harmonious professional relationships with clinic staff; counsel patients on proper use of medication; learn and apply principles and practices of supervision.
APPLICATION & SELECTION PROCESS:
Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the supplemental questionnaire ranking to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive an email notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list.

Conditional Job Offer: Once a conditional offer of employment has been made, candidate will be required to successfully complete a background check, which includes a conviction history check, and satisfactory reference checks. The appointee will be subject to a post-offer medical evaluation or examination. The appointee must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period.
The Public Health Department (PHD) requires all employees working in direct contact with patients or clients in a high-risk environment to comply with the PHD Employee Immunizations policy. This can be accomplished by providing documentation of immunizations, submitting laboratory immune titers demonstrating adequate immunity, or obtaining required vaccinations. A list of requirements, based on the specific program, will be sent at the time an offer letter is presented to the selected candidate(s) and initial documentation will be required at this time.
Additionally, for the Behavioral Wellness Department, a Live Scan and Background Check: Once a conditional offer of employment has been made, the selected candidate’s appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a Live Scan and background check which includes a conviction history check, and satisfactory reference checks. A Live Scan is electronic fingerprint scanning that is certified by the State Department of Justice. Further instructions about when and how to complete the Live Scan will be included in the offer letter. Appointee will be subject to a post-offer medical evaluation or examination. The appointee must satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period.
Disaster Service Workers: Pursuant to Governmental Code section 3100, all employees with the County of Santa Barbara are declared to be disaster service workers subject to such disaster service. Activities as may be assigned to them by their superiors or by law.
