About the role

We have a unique and exciting opportunity in the Superintendent Pharmacist’s Office for an experienced and dedicated pharmacist to join the Pharmacy Helpdesk team.

As a pharmacist on the Pharmacy Helpdesk, you’ll work as part of a high-performing team to provide support to store, field and support office-based pharmacy colleagues, by providing consistent and accurate advice whilst handling clinical, legal, professional and ethical queries.

  • Advise pharmacists, pharmacy teams and field teams on clinical, professional, legal, ethical matters
  • Provide consistent, accurate advice at all times, both orally and in writing
  • Provide reassurance and/or mental health support for pharmacists and pharmacy teams
  • Provide support for pharmacists operating at the edge of their professional knowledge, or, in difficult situations with patients, with a need to make a rational professional decision during a highly emotive set of circumstances
  • Identify and provide feedback to support office teams, when appropriate, with information and feedback from calls
  • Support the Superintendent Pharmacist’s Office with ongoing patient safety projects
  • If you hold a prescribing qualification, support the IMA prescribing team with travel health prescribing and other IMA services

What you’ll need to have

The successful candidate will:

  • be an experienced pharmacist with at least three years post registration experience (at least two years of in-store working) who has a detailed understanding of operational and professional aspects relating to services and systems across the business (prescribing qualification is desirable but not essential)
  • be able to work with autonomy and independence as well as part of a team and continually stay abreast of new changes, updates and programmes within the business
  • have experience in providing both NHS and Boots private pharmacy services
  • be able to demonstrate rational decision making and relay accurate information in time sensitive situations
  • be able to recognise potential safeguarding situations and support pharmacy teams to manage these
  • have an empathetic and compassionate attitude when dealing with difficult queries from store-based pharmacy team members
  • have a sound clinical background with an acute awareness of patient safety and a detailed understanding of Controlled Drug legislation including the prescribing of opioid substitution therapies
  • have good command of the English language, grammar and spelling with articulate communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • be flexible with their working pattern, ensuring the Pharmacy Helpdesk is manned 7 days a week, 364 days a year
