Are You Ready? 

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) is seeking board-eligible or board-certified physicians in internal medicine, family medicine, or emergency medicine to provide primary care services on a full-time/part-time basis (minimum 2 shifts/week) in our various correctional facilities across Ohio. Our robust centralized medical provider leadership team includes a state medical director, two assistant state medical directors, and a nurse practitioner supervisor. Job Description

What You’ll Do: 

  • Work collaboratively with intra and interdepartmental staff to administer treatment for patients utilizing nationally recognized treatment standards and documenting utilizing an electronic health record system
  • Conduct exams and writing evaluations and reports
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing
  • Manage medication
  • Complete reclassifications and other reviews as indicated
  • Making referrals for specialized care or treatment
  • Perform duties in accordance with scope of practice; ODRC policies, procedures, protocols; and related American Correctional Association standards
  • Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement meetings and activities, including peer reviews
  • Provide or share responsibilities of off-site 24-hour emergency telephone call coverage as needed (provision of on-call services are included as part of the normal job duties and do not garner extra compensation)
  • Engaging in collaborative agreements, as needed

Some positions may require the selected physician to work in the role of Chief Medical Officer. Those duties include:

  • Determining the need for specialty consults
  • Attending professional meetings
  • Managing on-call schedule
  • Providing clinical supervision of all providers, ensuring that care is provided in accordance with ODRC policy and procedure and meets community standards

Qualifications

Certificate to practice medicine in state of Ohio as issued by State Medical Board pursuant to Section 4731.14 & 4731.281 of Revised Code.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing:

All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment unless the applicant submits medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana.

The final applicant selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

  • Individuals convicted of soliciting or providing support for an act of terrorism, terrorism, or money laundering to support terrorism;
  • Individuals who have been convicted of or pled guilty to a felony where a direct correlation exists between the position and prior criminal behavior.
