Under the general direction of the Chief Physician & Surgeon, Correctional Facility (CF), the Physician & Surgeon, CF (Internal Medicine/Family Practice [IM/FP]), provides medical care to patients in a correctional facility. The Physician & Surgeon, CF (IM/FP), performs medical assessments and provides medical treatment on assigned patients as appropriate and as authorized by the medical license. The Physician & Surgeon, CF (IM/FP) provides clinical consultation to midlevel providers and other staff and instructs nursing and other clinical staff on medical protocols and adheres to professional medical standards of care. The Physician & Surgeon, CF (IM/FP) is assigned on call duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the Medical Board of California or the California Board of Osteopathic Examiners. and Possession of a valid internal medicine or family medicine Medical or Osteopathic Specialty Certificate issued by an American Medical Specialty Board or an American Osteopathic Specialty Board; or admissibility to an internal medicine or family medicine Specialty examination as evidenced by a written statement from the Secretary of the American Board of Family Medicine or the Secretary of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan Fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by department annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
