This position with Ascension Medical Group offers a vibrant employed referral network of primary and specialty care physicians.

Ascension Genesys Hospital is looking for a full-time, Cardiothoracic Surgeon for our Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery.

This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to partner with Ascension Genesys Hospital to provide cardiothoracic surgery services to patients.

Position Highlights:

  • Ascension Genesys Hospital (Grand Blanc, Michigan), a Level 2 Trauma Center in the Mid-Michigan region, consists of 410 beds and provides 24/7 emergency care and surgical specialty care services.
  • The hospital consists of full spectrum prevention, primary care and specialty services, and is an accredited teaching hospital with seven residency programs, five fellowship programs and multiple medical school affiliations. 
  • Immediate coverage is needed at Ascension Genesys Hospital.

  • Grand Blanc, Michigan is located at the southern border of Genesee County and northern Oakland County, 10 miles south of Flint and 60 miles north of Detroit. The city occupies approximately four square miles.   • The position would be primarily clinical responsibilities. Clinical research opportunities are available and flexible to be suited to the candidate’s area of interest. 
  • The chosen candidate will enjoy working with a supportive team with primary goals of programmatic excellence and quality outcomes. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Division provides all aspects of cardiac (except transplant), thoracic, TAVR and innovative multi-disciplinary procedures, including DaVinci XI Robot. Prior to recent events there were approximately 200 cardiac and 180 thoracic surgeries annually at Ascension Genesys.
  • Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical and surgical diagnostic and treatment skills. Coordinates discharge planning with case management.
  • Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
  • Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
  • Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
  • Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
  • Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.



Required Credential(s):

  • Physician MD/DO with Prescriptive Authority credentialed from the Michigan Board of Medicine obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date. Verified by local Credentialing Office.

Preferred Credential(s):

  • Advanced Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).


  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Optometry (OD) or Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) required.

Additional Preferences

Qualifications for this position include:

  • Successful completion of training in an accredited Cardiothoracic Surgery fellowship program
  • Robotic experience a plus
  • BE/BC Cardiothoracic Surgery
