Sometimes this might mean guiding a patient toward the best non-operative route. Sometimes this may involve spine surgery. Either way, we take our commitment to our patients seriously.

Our team of spine surgeons grew up in Hawaii and are excited to have the opportunity to give back to the community where they were raised. With the knowledge and technical skills gained while training at some of the premier spine centers in the country, our spine surgeons provide the most modern, comprehensive spine care possible to our patients.

I. JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides high-quality, coordinated, comprehensive, team-based, and patient-centered care for patients of The Queen’s Health System’s (QHS) hospitals and clinics, and other hospitals and clinics, as applicable, in the area of Orthopedic Surgery – Spine
  • Responsible for diagnosing and prescribing a course of treatment, surgery, and therapy for patients with disorders, malformations, diseases and/or injuries to the musculoskeletal system, with a focus and/or interest in orthopedic spine conditions.
  • Engages engage in academic medical/clinical education, training, supervision, evaluation, and research.
  • Works cooperatively within collaborative practice models.
  • Supports the vision and values to enhance the provision of quality health care and optimize the health status of QHS patients, and supports The Queen’s Medical Center’s (QMC) mission to fulfill the intent of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV to provide in perpetuity quality health care services to improve the well-being of Native Hawaiians and all of the people of Hawai`i.

II. TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking.
  • Constant: sitting, static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
  • Frequent: walking.
  • Occasional: standing, stooping/bending, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground, lifting and carrying usual weight of 1 pound up to 5 pounds, reaching above, at, and below shoulder level, frequent gripping of an object.

III. TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
  • Exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious agents is an occupational risk; therefore, standard safety regulations must be maintained to avoid contamination.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
  • Completion of a Spine Surgery fellowship training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Current board certification in Orthopedic Surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within two (2) years of entrance into the position.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.

B. EXPERIENCE:

  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the applicable QHS hospitals’ medical staffs in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
  • Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine preferred.

Clinical base annual salary: $751,366.00
