The MaineHealth Medical Group (MHMG) and MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Service Line (MHBBCSL) Southern Region Pediatric Primary Care Medical Director will partner with the BBCH health service line and MHMG Southern Region primary care leadership to identify, design and lead initiatives on the quality of children’s healthcare, patient safety, patient satisfaction and the efficient use of resources dedicated throughout the southern region community to effectively promote the needs of and improve the health of the pediatric population. The leader will participate in identification and development of MHBCCSL annual and strategic goals to support the academic mission, including career development for MHBBCSL primary care pediatricians, and pediatric APPs. The leader is responsible for contributing to the development of organizational standards, strategies, and for operational, financial, and clinical performance that align to the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of MaineHealth. Collaborating with the respective vice president as well as the medical directors, this person is responsible for operational, financial, and clinical strategies, and providing medical group leadership. This individual will support and be an active leader in MHMG/MHBBCSL – southern region for quality, safety, regulatory, and growth initiatives. 

Essential Functions:

  • Partners with the MHBBCSL and MHMG Southern Region primary care leadership to ensure alignment of workflows and initiatives to the benefit of the MH Southern Region pediatric populations within the disciplines of Family medicine, Medicine/Pediatrics, and Pediatrics.
  • Responsible for the continued transformation to patient-centered, value-based care.
  • Accountable for the development, implementation, and success of the quality, safety and financial performance of the MHMG Southern Region primary pediatric practices.
  • Works closely with the MHBBC Service line, discipline leaders, residency and medical student program directors to continue our commitment to outpatient teaching.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of pediatric providers in the MH Southern Region, including partnering with the MHBBCSL to improve career develop and retention.
  • Accountable to the leaders of the MHBBCSL and Southern Region primary care through a matrixed reporting structure. Owns the partnership between Southern Region pediatric primary care and the MHBBCSL.
  • Partners with the MHMG Southern Region associate medical directors at all sites to achieve operational efficiencies and optimize patient outcomes.
  • Leads a team of medical directors who are accountable for translating strategies into day-to-day practice operations. Regularly meets with medical directors.
  • Develops and nurtures relationships, coaches and mentors medical directors, and collaborates with both internal and external key stakeholders.
  • Leads and coordinates standardization and continuous improvement efforts across MHMG – southern region.
  • Viewed as a role model for physicians and APPs by upholding the values of MaineHealth.
  • Advocates to administration for the needs of clinicians and care team members and holds the organization accountable to the commitments it has made to clinicians and care team members.

  • Participates in appropriate leadership meetings including the southern region Senior Management Team meeting, boards and other committees.
  • Serves as the bridge in communications between medical group leadership and medical directors.

  • Strong understanding of principles of patient-centered care, physician compensation systems, medical technology, including electronic medical records, and quality/service improvement strategies.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality when dealing with sensitive medico-legal and professionalism issues.

Qualifications:

  • MD/DO required from an accredited school.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive management experience. 
  • Prior leadership training is preferred.
