Job Summary

In collaboration with Physician leadership, provides ongoing training, support, facilitation and coordination of the physician adoption component of the electronic medical record (EMR). Develops and implements a clinical approval process to facilitate the implementation of Medical Logic Modules and order sets submitted by the medical staff.

The ideal candidate has a strong clinical background (such as Nurse, Medical Assistant, Respiratory Therapist, etc.) who has used Epic and was the ‘go to person’ for Epic or other clinical applications within their department. This person is a quick learner and can adapt to rapid changes easily, is able to prioritize tasks independently and is professional with strong verbal and written communication skills. This person is able to stand or walk for long periods of time and is comfortable speaking to providers 1:1 and in large groups.

Local travel is required: This position is for the South market, including but not limited to: Akron General, Mercy Hospital, Union Hospital.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains thorough understanding of site-specific physician adoption plan.
  • Regularly reviews progress towards goals and objectives detailed in the plan.
  • Coordinates and provides training for the electronic medical record.
  • Coordinates and provides physician training using a variety of methods: classroom, computer based, and one-on-one.
  • Maintains education materials for all methods.
  • Tracks physician training and proficiency requirements.
  • In collaboration with Medical Staff office, coordinates and provides new physician orientation.
  • If applicable, coordinates physician remote access connection to the EMR.
  • Advises physician office staff on the technical requirements for remote access.
  • Coordinates, provides and tracks training for physician office staff.
  • Promotes maximum utilization of EMR within the physician group.
  • Serves as primary contact for physician EMR related issues.
  • Provides ongoing techniques to better incorporate and utilize the EMR. Facilitates the creation, use and maintenance of order sets.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
  • Must have strong clinical background and knowledge of patient care setting and clinical practice.
  • Nursing experience preferred but other diagnostic and therapeutic experience acceptable.

Certifications:

  • Experience typically supported by license in a medically related field such as nursing, pharmacy, medical technology or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
  • For Information Technology Division caregivers, ITIL Foundations certification is required within 6 months of position start date.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Work Experience:

  • 3-5 years experience in a clinical setting, preferably in a multi-entity health care system.
  • Experience with clinical information systems or computerized physician order management preferred.
  • Experience in education/training or human resources development preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • RN, LPN, MA, RT or another clinical license.

Physical Requirements:

  • High degree of dexterity to produce materials on a computer.
  • Requires normal or corrected vision, hearing and speech, mobility sufficient to attend meetings.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • The position must be available after hours for support by pager and computer dial-in.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
