Position Title: Transmission Modeling Consultant

Position Classification: Short-term Consultancy (4 months, with possibility of extension)

Reports To: TB Elimination Project Technical Lead, PIH Lesotho; Associate Director Health Financing, Cross Site

Location: Remote; travel to Lesotho up to 20%

Funding/Timebound: Consultancy expected to run January–April 2026

Work Authorization: Not a staff position; no U.S. work authorization sponsorship provided

Position Overview

Partners In Health (PIH) is seeking an experienced infectious disease modeler to lead the development and application of a stratified TB transmission model as part of PIH’s TB elimination work. The consultant will design the model structure, integrate epidemiologic and operational data, run scenario analyses, and translate results into clear, actionable insights for PIH teams.

Responsibilities

Model Design and Development (30%)

Create a stratified deterministic TB transmission model including relevant TB compartments.

Incorporate stratification by age, HIV status, drug resistance, and geographic units.

Data Collection and Integration (15%)

Compile demographic, epidemiologic, diagnostic, TPT, and HRH datasets for calibration.

Document assumptions, parameter sources, and data transformations.

Intervention Mapping – Search, Treat, Prevent (20%)

Translate TB program strategies into model levers including ACF coverage, screening pathways, diagnostic capacity, treatment outcomes, and TPT parameters.

Calibration and Scenario Analysis (20%)

Calibrate the model to historical TB data and MDR burden.

Run scenario packages to assess impacts on incidence, mortality, transmission, HRH load, and costs.

Communication and Knowledge Transfer (15%)

Produce summaries of modeling assumptions and results.

Deliver presentations and technical explainers.

Train PIH staff on model interpretation and use.

Qualifications

Required Experience, Education, Licenses or Certifications

5–8 years of experience in infectious disease modeling or epidemiology.

Master’s degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, mathematical modeling, or related field.

Experience developing infectious disease transmission models (Excel, R, Python, or similar).

Knowledge of TB epidemiology, diagnostics, treatment outcomes, and TPT.

Skills (Required)

Proficiency in quantitative modeling, calibration, and scenario simulation.

Strong communication and documentation skills.

Ability to translate technical analysis for non-technical audiences.

Ability to work independently and across distributed teams.

Skills (Preferred)

Experience with TB programs in LMICs.

Familiarity with WHO guidance, Global Fund processes, or NSP development.

Experience with intervention costing or resource modeling.
