European Cycling Industries is the united voice of the European cycling sector, representing national industry associations across Europe and companies covering all stages of the cycling value chain in manufacturing and services. We engage with European policymakers to secure policies and regulations that support the growth of cycling and help the cycling ecosystem anticipate key developments.
The ideal candidate for this position is a highly-organised and detail-focused individual who proactively drives the discussion of technical expert groups with an array of clear communication, consensus-building and diplomatic skills. The position would be best suited for an individual with minimum 4 years experience in an EU trade association, ideally dealing with standardisation and regulatory topics in transport and/or industry.
The new recruit will: (1) initially co-manage, and then fully manage, a selection of European Cycling Industries’ technical working groups with the support of the ECI Industry Manager, (2) develop and consolidate position papers and other relevant material, (3) attend and represent the association in external expert groups and (4) ensure the timely and thorough monitoring of all the relevant developments, debates, events and gather relevant information that feeds into the technical committees’ work.
About the Responsibilities:
ECI Technical Committees: organise, convene and prepare technical committee meetings and help ensure the proactive and efficient participation of members in the meetings.
Supporting policy & regulatory colleagues: carry out all committee-related activities in close collaboration with the public affairs and industry team, developing and consolidating position papers and other documents for policy engagement.
Content & monitoring: gather relevant material that feeds into the Association’s policy work, monitor all the relevant information sources – including but not limited to EU institutions’ websites and publications, prepare reports on stakeholder/institutional events,and disseminate relevant information for the Members.
About the Requirements:
Necessary skills:
- You have a clear understanding of the functions of the EU Institutions and have a strong understanding of how EU legislation is prepared and executed, in particular through implementing and delegated acts;
- Your written English is excellent, and you are comfortable presenting and explaining complex regulatory topics in English;
- Prior work in an EU-level umbrella Association would be a strong asset, as would prior involvement in EU or international standardisation processes;
- Well-versed in using the latest file sharing tools to help technical experts keep track of key developments and expert group meetings;
- Open to some travelling, especially in Europe;
- Desirable: you have been involved in European Commission expert group meetings in technical regulatory areas such as vehicle type approval, chemical regulation, eco-design and/or product safety;
- Experience: at least 4 years in EU public affairs, law, policy, or within EU institutions;
- Languages: full English proficiency in speaking and writing is a must; good knowledge of other EU languages an asset.
