Postdoctoral Associate / Senior Postdoctoral Associate

Job title:

Postdoctoral Associate / Senior Postdoctoral Associate

Company

Stony Brook Medicine

Job description

Postdoctoral Associate:Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, Control Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong background in power system stability analysis and nonlinear system dynamics.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, or PSS/E.
  • Solid understanding of power electronics, grid integration of renewables, and stability assessment techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, programming, and computational skills.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with black-box modeling of wind turbines and converter-based power systems.
  • Knowledge of Lyapunov-based methods, nonlinear stability assessment, and control design.
  • Familiarity with CIGRE benchmark systems for power system stability testing.
  • Industrial experience in wind power integration, grid code compliance, or energy system modeling.

Brief Description of Duties:The Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Principal Investigator in the . The incumbent will conduct research within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research in the field of power electronics. The integration of RESs has significantly changed power grid infrastructure, primarily due to the reliance on power electronic-based converters rather than conventional rotating generators. This shift reduces grid inertia and introduces new challenges in grid stability and reliability. Traditional small-signal stability analysis methods are insufficient for evaluating large disturbances such as faults and disconnections. This project focuses on developing and validating computationally efficient methodologies for large signal stability analysis of wind power plants (WPPs) to improve the reliability of renewable-based power grids.Position Details:The postdoctoral researcher will work at:

  • Stony Brook University (SBU) for 2 months
  • Aalborg University (AAU) for 8 months
  • Ørsted, Gentofte for 8 months
  • Returning to SBU for 6 months

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop novel large signal stability assessment methodologies for power grids with high penetration of RESs.
  • Improve computational efficiency in large-disturbance stability analysis to reduce reliance on time- domain simulations.
  • Apply stability assessment methodologies to real-world wind power plants (WPPs).
  • Work with black-box models from OEMs to develop techniques that rely on limited time-domain simulations.
  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, and industry reports.

Senior Postdoctoral Associate:Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
