Note for Current UM EmployeesCurrent employees must apply internally via connectU >Definition of ClassThe Molecular Biophysics and Engineering Lab ( ) in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Mississippi is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct NIH-funded research cytoskeletal biophysics. The goal of the lab’s work is to understand the emergent mechanisms of force transmission within the cytoskeleton and what role its constituent parts, such as motor proteins, play in cytoskeletal crosstalk.Examples of Work Performed

  • Lead the development of new in vitro cytoskeletal assays using biophysical experimental techniques, such as optical tweezers, TIRF microscopy, and QCM-D
  • Innovate experiments, assay designs, and approaches as needed and informed by experimental results
  • Generate, compile, and interpret experimental data
  • Assist with daily lab operations and with mentoring junior lab members
  • Develop and contribute to grant reports, new grants, manuscripts, and conference presentations

Minimum Education/ExperienceThe ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. (or soon to be awarded Ph.D.) in biomedical/chemical/biomolecular engineering, biophysics, chemistry, molecular/cell biology, or a closely related field and have familiarity with in vitro reconstitution, microscopy, and the cytoskeleton. Prior experience in cytoskeleton dynamics and/or single molecule techniques such as TIRF and/or optical tweezers is beneficial. Strong interpersonal skills necessary for a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, excellent communication skills (oral and written), interest in mentoring junior lab members, and a proven track record of research evidenced through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations are required.Application ProceduresInterested applicants should apply at by submitting a combined PDF of the following: cover letter, curriculum vitae, two sample publications, and contact information for three references.
