Postdoctoral Research Fellow- Chemical Biology

Assists in synthesizing and in-vitro testing of small organic molecule for chemical biology, drug discovery and molecular Imaging projects. This position requires excellent skills in organic synthesis, analytical, theoretical and practical knowledge (NMR, UV, HPLC, LC-MS etc.), In-vitro testing techniques (MTT assays, Western Bolt, Molecular Biology Techniques etc) and guide to a junior/senior chemist. PhD of Science in a scientific field. Experience may substitute for degree on a year for year basis.

Principal Responsibilities:

Assists in synthesizing and testing small organic molecules using known chemical reactions and known schemes, maintaining lab protocols (safety and MSDS data sheets). Ordering chemicals and lab supplies.

• Organic reaction mechanism and hands on experience in organic synthesis from 5mg to 100mg scale.

• Strong knowledge in organic synthesis

• Testing small organic molecules for biological studies using Molecular biology techniques.

• Assists in the analysis of chemical structures. Use LC-MS and NMR (1H and 13C) and other analytical tools to elucidate chemical structures. Should have knowledge in literature search like Scifinder, Pubmed, Chemdraw ultra.

• Prepare PowerPoint, present seminars. Use chem-draw ultra to draw chemical structures, and literature searching knowledge (Sci-finder, PubMed etc.)

• Guide high school and summer students

• Assist in maintenance of laboratory equipment. (HPLC, LC-MS, Vacuum pump, Balance) and maintain MSDS data sheet and all chemical order in-voice. Keep laboratory in good working order according to GLP and well-supplied

Education Requirements:

• PhD of Science in a scientific field (Chemical Biology). Experience may substitute for degree on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions:

Work in the Chemical Biology laboratory.

Materials & Equipment:

Should have basic knowledge on organic reaction mechanisms, Boron chemistry, and experience in handing air and water sensitive compounds.
