The President and Vice-Chancellor serves as the University’s chief executive officer and strategic leader, charged with advancing its mission and vision. This role requires an individual with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse academic community while addressing the complex challenges of a modern university. As the public face of the University, the President will work closely with stakeholders to enhance the institution’s reputation as a hub for teaching, research, and innovation. Key priorities include promoting a world-class student experience, strengthening the University’s bilingual identity, and ensuring long-term sustainability through sound financial stewardship and strategic organizational growth.

The next President of the University of Ottawa will be a visionary leader with the ability to transform ambition into action. They will bring innovative and entrepreneurial thinking, coupled with the capacity to guide a complex institution through periods of change and growth. Fluency in both French and English is essential, as is a commitment to promoting and supporting Francophone culture within the University’s unique bilingual context. The ideal candidate has experience in research, teaching, or administration, and will demonstrate a strong respect for academic freedom and freedom of expression.
