Primary Assistant Head: Teaching and Learning

We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking leader to join our vibrant primary team as Assistant Head: Teaching and Learning. This pivotal role offers the opportunity to shape and inspire the educational experience of our students, ensuring high standards of teaching, an innovative curriculum, and an inclusive learning environment.

As part of the Senior Leadership Team, you will collaborate closely with the Heads of Primary and the Deputy Head of Primary to drive the strategic direction of the school. Your work will focus on embedding a culture of excellence in teaching and learning while ensuring that every child is challenged, supported, and celebrated. In addition, you will also support three Primary year groups. We are looking for someone with a collaborative spirit and a passion for creativity who thrives in a team environment.

About the Role

In this position, you will lead the evolution of our curriculum, ensuring it is ambitious, coherent, and inclusive. You will collaborate with middle leaders to map and sequence learning pathways, ensuring students build their knowledge and skills progressively. By championing the inclusion of all learners, you will adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of every child, particularly those with SEND.

Teaching and learning are at the core of our school’s mission, and you will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing excellence across all classrooms. You will model outstanding teaching practices, mentor colleagues, and lead professional development initiatives to foster a culture of curiosity, innovation, and growth. By embedding evidence-based practices and reflective teaching methods, you will inspire confidence and development in your peers.

You will also lead the school’s engagement with educational research, staying at the forefront of developments in pedagogy and curriculum design. By sharing insights and best practices, you will ensure that our school remains an inspiring, supportive, and high-achieving environment for both students and staff.

This role carries a 50% teaching load, providing you with the opportunity to connect directly with students, model excellence in teaching, and support colleagues as they implement innovative practices.

Curriculum and Learning Approach

Our curriculum broadly follows the EYFS and English National Curriculum with an inclusive, international perspective. Senior students take IGCSEs and the IB Diploma, with options for the IB Career-Related Pathway and International BTECs, catering to our diverse community.
