A love letter to the NHS and a middle finger to the Hollywood birth narrative, BIRTH is a darkly comic, moving – and at times gloriously camp – new musical examining what it really means to start a family: risk, loss of control, and community.
Music & Lyrics by Robert Moutrey & Sam Asbury
Book by Haley McGee (Olivier Award-nominated Age Is A Feeling)
PRONK! Productions is seeking a freelance Producer (R&D) to support the development of BIRTH: The Musical, culminating in a rehearsed sharing at Soho Theatre Walthamstow in July/August 2026.
This role is offered on a fixed fee of £2,600, based on approximately 10 full working days or 20 half-days (approx. 4 hours each) across the R&D period (May-August 2026).
The sharing will be presented to a curated invited audience including NHS professionals, NICU parents, industry guests, and local community members. The audience is central to the process – both as witnesses to the work and as contributors to its next stage of development.
This is a part-time, flexible producing role. The Producer will work closely with the creative team to coordinate audience engagement and support the delivery of a focused and well-executed sharing.
The role centres on stakeholder outreach, audience coordination, event planning, and post-sharing follow-up. It includes managing invitations, liaising with Soho Theatre on audience logistics, supporting front-of-house delivery, and ensuring feedback is gathered effectively.
A weekly 20-30 minute check-in will support coordination across the process. The Producer will also prioritise availability during key dates in the rehearsal and sharing week.
This is not a full producing role, but a clearly defined position focused on delivering a strong R&D outcome and supporting the project’s next stage of development.
The ideal candidate will have experience in theatre, live events, or new writing development processes.
You should be confident coordinating audiences and managing stakeholder relationships, with strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Experience working with invited audiences, industry guests, or community groups is desirable.
You should be comfortable working flexibly across a project timeline, managing your own time within an agreed structure. Clear communication, reliability, and a calm approach to delivery are essential.
An interest in new musical theatre and development processes is important. Experience liaising with venues or supporting R&D sharings would be beneficial, though not essential.
Please send a short expression of interest (max 1 page or a few paragraphs) outlining your relevant experience and why this project interests you.
You are welcome to include links to previous work or projects where appropriate.
Send applications to: [email protected]
Deadline: April 10th 2026 23:59
We welcome applications from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. If you have any access requirements or questions about the role, please feel free to get in touch.
