Job Summary

Alethia Antonia is looking to connect with intergenerational Black Women and Non-Binary performers for the R&D of their next full-length work. Due to the intergenerational aspect of the work, Alethia is excited to connect with performers of all ages, particularly those over the age of 40.

Project Details

Engagement: 4 weeks. Weeks comprise of 5 working days Monday – Friday up to 8 hours each day.

Location: Leeds and Ipswich.

Dates: Autumn 2025 – Spring 2026 (Exact dates TBC, this engagement will comprise of 4 full weeks of work).

Pay: £700 per week + travel, accommodation and per diems if away from home.

Other: Pastoral care and access support offered.

About the work

The R&D will be part of the development of Alethia’s first full-length group production Sis? (Working title) which aims to be a physical, emotive, intergenerational work which explores notions of sisterhood, and challenges colonial ideas of gender and race, whilst highlighting the multiplicity of feminine blackness and the power of community.

This work is co-commissioned by Sadlers Wells, Yorkshire Dance and Certain Blacks. Supported by Dance East. With funding from Arts Council England.

Job Requirements

Alethia is looking for performers with the following qualities:

An individual who considers feminine blackness/Black womanhood as part of their identity. (Black meaning a person of African or Caribbean descent).
A strong understanding of their own physicality through improvisation and set material.
A strong sense of musicality and rhythm.
Have familiarity with “contemporary dance” as a part of their physical vocabulary.
Comfortable exploring movements and qualities stemming from various movement practices and dance styles.
An openness in exploring alternative ways of working, considering better working practices and accessibility.
The ability to work independently and collaboratively in the development of movement and themes.
A strong interest in exploring autobiographical and collective narratives around identity and community.
Experience in singing is desirable but not essential.
