Professor of English / Communication (Open-Rank)
Florida Polytechnic University invites applications for tenure-equivalent faculty positions in English/Communication at the rank of instructor, assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor, to begin January 2025 or August 2025. We seek candidates of all faculty ranks who possess outstanding teaching skills, demonstrated potential for or record of a successful research, and a willingness to perform service activities that enhance the educational mission of the university and enhance the role of the liberal arts within our STEM-focused university community. The successful applicant will have strong teaching skills and be willing to push against educational norms to develop exciting and innovative curricula that enhance the overall educational experience of our students.
Position responsibilities include:
The Department of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences faculty perform the critical task of delivering General Education courses needed for students to meet state curriculum requirements in the Communication, Humanities/Fine Arts, and Social Sciences areas. The department also offers a certificate in Applied Liberal Studies, which can be completed by any Florida Poly undergrad wishing to expand their communication and critical thinking skills and knowledge of the liberal arts. Department faculty also operate and staff the university’s nationally certified Writing Center.

TENURE-EQUIVALENT SYSTEM
Faculty at Florida Poly are employed via renewable, multi-year appointments codified in a collective bargaining agreement. This tenure-equivalent system substantially mirrors tenure systems at other Florida State University Systems schools, with reappointment and progression in rank based on a comprehensive review of accomplishments. Initial contract durations are as follows:
Assistant Professor: 3 years
Associate Professor: 3-5 years
Professor: 6 years
Applicants with post-PhD experience may be offered an accelerated timeline to apply for promotion to the next academic rank. Under this tenure-equivalent system, faculty are eligible to compete for NSF and NIH grants, including career grants.
