Job Description
The Programme Producer is a key member of the Waterside management team, responsible for shaping and delivering an ambitious, high-quality artistic programme that strengthens the venue’s profile, sustainability and impact. Working closely with colleagues, artists, partners and communities, the postholder will provide artistic leadership across visual arts, performing arts, participatory activity, community productions and festivals, ensuring a coherent, inclusive and accessible programme that reflects Waterside’s vision and contributes to the cultural life of Trafford and the wider region.
The role will lead the development and implementation of Waterside’s artistic policy, championing collaboration, cross-artform working and innovative approaches to programming. You will identify opportunities to create, commission, co-produce and present high-quality artistic work that engages diverse audiences, supports artist development and enhances the venue’s reputation locally, regionally and nationally.
A key responsibility will be to develop, deliver and continually improve a diverse, ambitious and financially sustainable artistic programme that balances creative excellence with audience appeal and commercial objectives. You will use audience insight, sector knowledge and partnership working to ensure the programme remains relevant, responsive and impactful, while supporting audience growth and engagement.
The successful candidate will build and maintain strong relationships with artists, cultural organisations, funders, promoters and community partners, ensuring projects are delivered to a high standard and aligned with strategic priorities. Through effective planning, leadership and collaboration, you will help ensure Waterside remains a vibrant cultural destination, delivering meaningful artistic experiences that inspire audiences and support the Council’s wider ambitions for culture, place and community wellbeing.
Job Requirements
This role requires a qualified and experienced arts professional with a degree level qualification, or equivalent professional experience, in arts, cultural management or production, supported by ongoing professional development. You will bring significant experience of producing and programming professional performing arts activity, managing budgets, contracts and financial agreements, and working collaboratively with artists, partners and stakeholders to deliver high-quality projects. A strong understanding of the UK arts and cultural sector, audience development, access and inclusion, and funding processes, including Arts Council England, is essential. You will demonstrate excellent artistic judgement, financial awareness, planning and negotiation skills, with the ability to analyse audience insight and performance data to inform decision-making. An adaptable and collaborative leader, you will be able to support, motivate and supervise others while managing multiple priorities.
