The Communications and Social Media Consultant will work under direct supervision of Plastic Waste and Ocean Manager to support WRI’s effort of reducing marine pollution as well as promoting sustainable ocean by executing the Secretariat of National Plastic Action Partnership (NPAP) and Ocean program’s communications strategies. The responsibilities include development of communications products, co-organizing events, and managing multiple communications channels (such as website, blog, publications, media relations, and events). The position holder is expected to proactively collaborate with the NPAP Secretariat, WRI Indonesia Ocean program’s and Communications team, and GPAP team at the World Economic Forum.

This position will be based in Jakarta with office-flex working arrangement and travel requirement as needed. In support of WRI’s DEI commitment, you are responsible for actively participating in these collaborative efforts by integrating equity into your work, our workplace, and the organizational culture.

What You Will Do

Implement communications strategies related to NPAP and Ocean Programs. The implementation of communication strategies comprises of but is not limited to communications materials development, events management, media engagement, video development, writing, and social media engagement.

Develop monthly content planning  and lead the implementation by working collaboratively with other related personnel and/or vendor.

Develop and maintain media partnership including tracking and documenting media mention related to the project

Coordinate with the Communications Manager the Oceans team to support and manage communications strategies for reports, events, conferences, and news opportunities including media content

Develop ideas, write, and edit a variety of internal and external materials, such as blog posts, media materials, newsletters, op-eds, website content, and more related to marine pollution and sustainable ocean.

Engage with third-party vendors and consultants.

 

What You Will Need

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, environment, ocean, or other relevant fields;
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in communications, journalisim, or public relations field related to environment or ocean issue;
  • Social media savvy, experienced in developing and implementing a social media strategy that are useful, valuable, and relevant to the project and its audiences;
  • Articulate and experienced writer for environment-related articles and op-eds for media
  • Proficient in managing social media, particularly Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Business proficiency in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, with a strong writting and speaking communications
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various type of audience and/or stakeholder such as government officials, private entities, and community;
  • Having a visual skills, such as photography, graphic design, and Adobe Photoshop are desirable;
  • Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple deadlines while still maintaining to deliver high-quality work products;
  • Ability and willingness to travel as assigned
  • Legally able to work in Indonesia;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interest and experience in ocean, environmental, or sustainability issues in Indonesia
  • Background in media companies, international organizations, non profit organizations, or consulting firms
  • Experience collaborating with reporters or media representatives
