Project Coordinator

The mission of WHO India is to improve quality of life people in India by supporting the government in prevention and control of mental health and substance use disorders,  psychosocial issues during health emergencies, palliative care and elderly care in the country etc and strengthening health systems for UHC.

 

Description of Duties:

 

The Project Coordinator- Mercury Project will be responsible for the following tasks under the

managerial guidance of Deputy WHO Representative and under direct supervision of NPO (Public Health & Environment):

 

Act as day-to-day national technical focal point for the project and perform daily requests for technical information and project implementation.

Together with MOEFCC coordinator, support the constitution of Project steering committee and support organize the inception workshop and regular national project steering meetings, including drafting agenda, invitation letters; communication materials; and meeting reports.

In consultation with MOEFCC coordinator and WHO India, facilitate identification and prepare draft annual workplan including stakeholders and their roles.

Support in organising national capacity-building, and waste management meeting in coordination with national stakeholders.

Support in conducting a national situational analysis of phasing out of mercury from health facilities.

Work with the project team in preparing draft national and state phase out plan.

Prepare information on technical, progress and other information about the project and disseminate it through relevant channels including those MoHFW, MoEFCC, medical device manufacturers and other technical networks.

Support in preparing policy documents for phase out of mercury in the healthcare sector and work with hospital/other professional networks for wide dissemination.

Work with standardization bodies to ensure market availability of standardized equipment.

Support in the identification and implementation of Pilots for substitution of mercury in health care devices and preparing case studies for dissemination.

Prepare an inventory of standardized and approved mercury alternate medical devices in the Indian market to aid healthcare facilities.

In coordination with MOEFCC, develop models for waste management and safe disposal of Mercury as per the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016 and Mercury Guidelines of CPCB.

Provide input to quarterly project status reports, including progress on workplan, budget reports and contribute to forecasting of expenditure.

Prepare a summary report for mid-project and end-project review.

Liaise with WCO India and give inputs for developing communication products related to the project and aid in their distribution nationwide through various channels and networks of professional bodies of healthcare workers.

Support the MOHFW on fluoride-related work, fluorosis mitigation, research, data collection, analysis etc.

Support the MOHFW in phasing out of mercury from dental amalgam.

Provide other technical and administrative support to the MOHFW, as needed.

 

 

 

Education:

 

Essential: Undergraduate degree in medicine, environmental sciences or allied field.

 

Desirable: Post graduate diploma or certificate in public health, environmental health

Experience:

 

Essential: Atleast 1 year of working experience on noncommunicable disease with research institutes/ government institutions/reputed organizations/ WHO/UN agencies.

 

Desirable: Experience of co-ordinating with central and state government agencies on various health related programs

Functional Skills and Knowledge:

·         Work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervisions and handle multiple tasks and work well under pressure

Language Skills:

 

Essential: Proficiency in English and working knowledge of Hindi and/or one additional Indian language is preferred
