Job Description

Funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation this fixed term role will work with Theatre Peckham for 2.5 years. As the Project Lead for Spoken Word Theatre, you will be responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of the project, ensuring that it meets its objectives. You will coordinate activities, manage relationships and empower young participants to take ownership of the genre. Your leadership will be instrumental in defining Spoken Word Theatre and increasing its visibility within the arts community.

Project Management:

Lead the planning and delivery of the Spoken Word Theatre project, ensuring alignment with its objectives and timelines.

Coordinate focus group sessions with 5 young participants to gather insights and embed their involvement.

Conduct ongoing research to define the characteristics and impact of Spoken Word Theatre, culminating in a clear set of guidelines for the genre.

Manage project budgets

Workshops and Training:

Facilitate skill development workshops for young participants and community members, enhancing their creative and performance abilities.

Implement a mentorship programme pairing focus group members with established artists.

Events and Performances:

Organise monthly events that feature performances by focus group members and invited artists, coordinating with all relevant team members.

Promotion and Awareness:

Develop and deliver a social media strategy to promote Spoken Word Theatre and engage a broader audience.

Cultivate partnerships with local arts organisations to co-host events and enhance the visibility

Monitoring and Evaluation:

Collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative data to assess participant engagement, audience feedback, and overall project impact.

Terms:

Normal working hours for this role are 2 days per week 10-4pm (including a 1 hour unpaid break per day),

Salary: £15 per hour or annual salary of £27,300 pro rata’

Job Requirements

  • Proven experience in project management, particularly within the arts, community engagement, or youth development sectors.
  • Strong understanding of Spoken Word Theatre and its cultural significance, particularly in relation to mental health.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and events, with a passion for empowering young creatives.
  • Financial management skills, with experience overseeing budgets and reporting.
