Department 00233 – Oncology Job Summary
The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Utah is seeking a visionary and experienced healthcare organizational, operational, and financial senior leader to serve as Division Administrator and administratively lead the Divisions of Medical Oncology and Hematology. This high-impact, highly visible role within the Department of Internal Medicine provides full administrative and financial oversight of two of the largest and most complex divisions within the School of Medicine, comprising nearly 200 faculty, advanced practice clinicians (APCs), and staff.
This position reports directly to the Division Chiefs for Medical Oncology and Hematology and has functional reporting to the Department’s Senior Administrative Director. In this role, the Division Administrator will lead strategic planning, financial management, operational execution, and cross-functional coordination of the clinical, research, and educational missions. This role also serves as a key liaison with the Huntsman Cancer Institute and other institutional partners to ensure alignment, continuity, and innovation in cancer and hematologic care.
This is a dynamic leadership opportunity requiring technical proficiency in healthcare operations, organizational management, financial management, and academic administration, along with exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills. Success in this position requires a high level of proficiency in budgeting and data analysis, along with strong relationship management skills to navigate a dynamic, fast-paced academic medical environment.
About the Divisions
The combined Divisions of Hematology & Hematologic Malignancies and Medical Oncology include 74 faculty members, 70 advanced practice clinicians, and 13 staff. Together, they lead robust clinical, research, and education programs that serve patients across the region and contribute significantly to the Department of Internal Medicine’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration or related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Preferences
Experience in practice management, clinic operations, direct patient care, or healthcare administration.
Knowledge of managerial principles, HR management, and risk management.
Comprehensive understanding of academic medical center environments.
Experience with clinical informatics in hospital or ambulatory settings.
Proven leadership and project management skills with the ability to motivate multidisciplinary teams.
Self-starter with the ability to identify and operationalize initiatives independently.
Detail-driven leader with a strong familiarity with healthcare analytics and a focus on data-driven decision-making.
Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills.
Advanced problem-solving skills with a desire to tackle unexpected changes.
Strong decision-making and judgment capabilities.
Regular in-office presence expected during the first year; hybrid arrangements may be considered thereafter.
