The Department of Psychology within the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time (100% FTE) position as a Teaching Associate in Psychology, with an annual service period of nine months (Sept 16 – June 15), non-tenure eligible.

The role of the Psychology Teaching Associate is to assist with teaching undergraduate Psychology courses. The goal of this position is to provide the best possible undergraduate education to a large and diverse group of students taking courses in Psychology. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Attending course lectures;
  • Meeting and coordinating with the teaching team on a weekly basis;
  • Preparing review materials, holding review/CLUE sessions, obtaining rooms for review sessions, tutoring students;
  • Holding office hours;
  • Assisting with assignment and exam development and grading;
  • Assisting with classroom facilitation and exam proctoring;
  • Monitoring and responding to email and discussion board communication;
  • Maintaining course Canvas site and/or other online materials (e.g., website, Catalyst tools);
  • Maintaining updated course grades;
  • Reviewing literature to stay up to date on course topics.

Position Details: 

The Psychology department intends to fill a teaching associate position to start in Autumn 2024. This is a 100% FTE, faculty teaching position with a nine-month, academic-year appointment. There will be a 3-month conditional review period. This teaching job will require regular, on-campus availability throughout the quarter for all job duties and requirements. This is not a teaching assistant/ASE job, and it cannot be done in conjunction with an active graduate program. 

The base salary range for this position will be $ $5,597 – 5,700 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

The courses to be served by this position all have well-established curricula, and teaching associates will be given instructor-created materials and/or guidance on developing new materials. Teaching associates will be supported by the instructor and a graduate teaching assistant where applicable. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canvas.
  • Previous teaching experience is desirable, but not required.
