Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Head of UNRCO Tajikistan and in collaboration with other UNRCO team members, the intern will be engaged to: • Assist UNRCO and UNCT with organizational matters related to the International Conference on Glaciers Preservation 2025; • Conduct research and analysis on triple planetary crises (climate change, biodiversity and air pollution), including gathering and review of information and reports; monitoring and tracking of thematic developments, preparation of briefing notes and support to the chapter on climate and environment for the Common Country Analysis (CCA). • Support and contribute to engagement with key partners including with the mapping of partner activities in climate and environment, notably in a follow-up of the decisions made at the International Conference on Glaciers Preservation under the framework of the International Years of Glaciers Preservation 2025; • Assist in organizing events by UNRCO and UNCT, notably related to climate change and environment, and researching new joint proposals, in support of the Result groups 2 and 3 notably; • Support the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a targeted activity in the run up to the conduct of the International Conference on Glaciers Preservation. • Assist in other climate policy related duties as required by RC/RCO.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Russian is an advantage.
