The Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Virginia seeks applicants for a full-time Education and Outreach Specialist to join Project LINK: Learning to Generate Inferences and Building Knowledge Using an Online Platform. The purpose of Project LINK is to further develop and evaluate a curriculum designed to build knowledge and improve inference generation to support reading comprehension for middle-school students. The person in this position will serve the role of Reading/English Language Arts Curriculum Developer on this project. Their primary responsibilities will revolve around developing and supporting the implementation of the LINK curriculum. This position is either one full-time (40 hr week) or 2 part-time (20 hr week) salaried job(s) and is fully remote.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and revising curriculum materials (e.g., selecting texts, creating discussion prompts, developing teacher scripts)
  • Transferring curriculum materials to an online learning platform
  • Preparing and delivering professional development sessions for middle-school teachers
  • Providing instructional coaching/mentoring to teachers implementing the curriculum

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirement

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Additional experience will be required in lieu of a degree.

Experience: Two years of experience required with a Bachelor’s degree. Six years of experience required with a High School degree or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in education or a related field

Experience:

  • At least three years of experience working with upper-elementary or middle-school students in the area of reading/English language arts
  • Experience providing coaching/training/mentorship to upper-elementary or middle-school teachers, preferably with a focus on reading/English language arts instruction
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate and incorporate feedback
  • Knowledge of reading/English language arts instruction for middle school students
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft 365 products

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Anticipated Salary Range: $65,000-$70,000 with UVA benefits.
