The Project
For over 700 years, the people of Haringey have stood at the forefront of social, political and cultural movements, challenging the status quo and rallying for justice. From the legacy of figures such as Bernie Grant – one of the first Black leaders of a Council and a pioneering MP – to the countless communities who have united in solidarity and resistance, rebellion has always been part of the borough’s story. Issues we now recognise as fundamental: education and opportunity for all, racial equality, LGBTQI+ rights, anti-ageism and disability access – were once viewed as radical and anti-establishment. Collective action behind these movements has long had a home in Haringey’s rebel borough.
Over 600 of Haringey’s rebel moments have been captured in a one-hundred page Rebel Timeline curated by Deborah Hedgecock, the curator of Bruce Castle Museum & Archive. We want to celebrate these stories creatively and make Haringey’s history of activism, resistance and collective action visible for everyone.
The Role
We are looking for a bold and exceptional designer to bring our Rebel Timeline to life through engaging visual design and digital concept. Working closely with the London Borough of Culture team and Bruce Castle Museum & Archive, you will transform our existing text-based document into an imaginative and engaging digital timeline that visually celebrates Haringey’s history of activism, creativity and social change.
The successful designer will be responsible for developing the visual identity of the timeline and producing a range of engaging assets that are accessible, visually consistent and aligned with the project’s creative direction. This is an opportunity to shape a flagship piece of history, heritage and legacy that will live well beyond 2027.
