Regional Advocacy Adviser- Middle East
Jordan – Lebanon
War Child is looking for a Regional Advocacy Adviser- Middle East to lead impactful policy and advocacy work in the Middle East, influencing decision-makers to end rights violations, protect children from conflict, and ensure essential recovery support. Based in the Middle East region, you will focus on supporting country offices, partners, and stakeholders in advocacy efforts, leading emergency advocacy on regional crises, and engaging with regional networks and institutions.
As a member of the Advocacy Team within War Child Alliance’s Programme Quality, Scaling, and Advocacy Department, you will report to the Head of Advocacy. The role involves significant external engagement, building and nurturing relationships with decision-makers, experts, and high-level influencers across the region to advance War Child’s strategic goals.
You will work closely with Advocacy Team members, funding partners, technical teams, and Regional Advocacy Advisers to ensure that the voices and recommendations of country teams, partners, and stakeholders are amplified in regional accountability processes and global advocacy spaces.
Your Mission:
Strengthen Regional Engagement:
- Build War Child’s presence in Middle East advocacy networks, forums, and regional institutions to enhance visibility and impact.
Lead Emergency Advocacy:
- Develop strategic advocacy objectives, policy messages, and coordinate with country offices to address regional crises.
Policy Development and Research:
- Develop credible policy positions, commission and conduct high quality research and policy analysis.
Capacity Building for Country Teams:
- Support country teams including local partners to build their capacity and develop advocacy strategies.
Data-Informed Policy Recommendations:
- Develop actionable policy recommendations based on programmatic data and evidence, ensuring stakeholder participation in advocacy processes.
Media and Communications:
- Work with the Communications team to create media that amplifies advocacy goals and resonates with target audiences.
High-Level Representation:
- Represent War Child at events, meetings, and roundtables to advance advocacy objectives and establish War Child as a key player in regional advocacy.
Country and Global Influencing Visits:
- Regularly visit country programs and global hubs to align strategies and provide support.
Key Result Areas:
Advocacy Capacity Building:
- Equip country offices and partners with the tools and knowledge to implement advocacy strategies targeting regional and global decision-makers.
Regional and Global Advocacy Access:
- Collaborate with the Advocacy team to ensure country staff and stakeholders gain access to influential advocacy spaces.
Influencing Networks:
- Build partnerships with regional advocacy groups, INGOs, and donors, working closely with the business development team.
Humanitarian Crisis Advocacy:
- Lead regional crisis advocacy efforts, draft messaging, engage in global discussions, and coordinate actions with country teams
What You Will Bring:
- Experience: 5 years + working on humanitarian response, human rights, conflict, humanitarian or international development policy in the Middle East.
- Languages: Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English.
- Advocacy Skills: Adept at developing intelligent and targeted advocacy strategies that respond to the political and public environment and influence decision-makers to pursue political and policy changes.
- Adaptability: Capable of responding quickly to a rapidly changing regional environment and to proactively respond to opportunities as they emerge, constantly looking for opportunities to develop an organization’s profile, and to further its strategic advocacy goals.
- Collaboration: Able to develop positive, collaborative productive working relationships with a range of colleagues and internal functions e.g. communications, programmes, fundraising and external decision-makers and influencers.
- Policy Development: Capable of distilling complex research and information into priority policy recommendations and advocacy asks that are clear, concise and evidence-based, and developing advocacy strategies that lead to policy change.
- Representation: Skilled at advocating confidently and authoritatively with those in positions of power – including senior government and UN officials.
- Communication: Excellent writing and speaking skills.
- Flexibility: Willingness to travel across region.
What we offer:
- Location: Role to be based in either Lebanon or Jordan. Applicants must already reside in one of those countries and hold a valid work permit for that country. Please note, we do not provide relocation support or facilitate relocation.
- Contract Type and duration : Full time – one year employment contract.
