Position Summary

Be the Lifeline in Veterinary Cardiac Care: Join Us as a Registered Veterinary Technician III!

Are you an experienced veterinary technician with a passion for cardiology and cardiac surgery? The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University is seeking a skilled Registered Veterinary Technician III to join our elite Cardiology/Cardiac Surgery Unit. In this advanced role, you’ll work alongside leading cardiologists, assist in complex cardiac procedures, and provide top-tier care to our animal patients. If you’re ready to take your skills to the next level and be a critical part of lifesaving treatments, we want you to be the heartbeat of our team!

This position performs specific nursing/patient care functions, and assists veterinary students, interns, residents, and faculty in a variety of specialized cardiovascular procedures. The individual should demonstrate extensive abilities in problem solving and task resolution and be capable of exercising a great deal of independence of thought and judgment within the specialty area. This position directly supports the cardiac surgery program and provides cross-coverage of the medical cardiology service and the hybrid operating room technologist – as such, the breadth of expertise required is broad and multi-faceted. In cardiac surgery, the technician will communicate with families in advance of an appointment, manage inventory for the cardiac surgical practice, run the operating room during surgical procedures, and occasionally perform the duties of a scrub nurse during more complex surgical procedures. In providing cross-coverage to the medical clinic, this position works with the cardiology clinicians by independently performing blood pressure measurements, ECGs, and placing 24-hour Holter and event monitors (Zio monitor). While performing these diagnostics, the technician will teach the students and alert clinicians of any abnormalities noted. They will be responsible for inputting charges onto the cardiology billing forms and respond to messages left on the cardiology voice mail and messages sent by email to the cardiology and cardiac surgery service. Client interaction and communication, as well as communication with internal consulting services and referring veterinarians, are an integral part of the job. This position requires data input and analysis skill sets with familiarity with Microsoft Office software.

The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the date of hire; the department will not be offering visa sponsorship.

A signing bonus (up to $1,000.00) may be available for eligible and successful candidates.
