The program of Enteric Infections and Vaccines under the Infectious Diseases Division conducts research with the Mucosal Immunology and Vaccinology Unit (MIVU) for immunological and molecular genomic analyses for different enteric organisms. To achieve this goal icddr,b is working for controlling enteric infections, detecting and controlling emerging and re-emerging infections with the collaboration of the relevant government and non-government stakeholders.

Position Description:

  • The Research Assistant will report to the Senior Scientist and will be responsible for performing laboratory tests; Managing data; Implementing project activities and Quality assurance with the objective of supporting the research studies within the guidelines of project-specific research procedures and organizational values and guidelines. S/he will be involved in–

Perform routine laboratory experiments;

  • Maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment for their optimum operation and perform minor trouble-shooting;
  • Perform laboratory tests based on the direction from the supervisor;
  • Manuscripts writing and provides inputs to support scientific analysis;
  • Analyze data for report writing and report results maintaining confidentiality.
  • Storage and preservation of samples in appropriate condition according to the laboratory equipment maintenance standard;
  • Check adherence to quality assurance processes from collection to reception by the laboratory in order to monitor adherence to quality guidelines in laboratory test processes and results.
  • Processing, labelling and storage of the samples before analysis as per study requirement;
  • Routine monitoring of inventory with the help of supporting staff in order to maintain the sample’s integrity.
  • Carry out PCR (eg: qualitative and quantitative), anti-microbial resistance work, TAC assay, cell culture method, flow cytometry;
  • Perform nucleic acid extraction from clinical specimens;
  • Carry out real-time RT-PCR for detection of enteric infections;
  • Detection of immune response against cholera, ETEC, Typhoid by multiplex bead array method and Luminex assay[
  • Work together with senior colleagues in the Lab and assist them in performing different laboratory tests with study samples as per guidelines;

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Masters in Microbiology/Molecular Biology/Biotechnology/Biochemistry with good academic records.
  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience in infectious diseases area with publication(s) in peer-reviewed international journals.; Applicants with direct exposure to the clinical vaccine trials will get an additional advantage
