The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a PhD or MD/PhD researcher to join the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.
Position Overview
The Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and Burn Surgery is seeking highly qualified PhD level candidates to join its cutting-edge research team. The Division, within the Department of Surgery, wishes to expand it’s breadth of basic and translational research. Using a foundation of clinical care across trauma, complex emergency general surgery, and high-volume surgical critical care, we seek funded researchers who can leverage this clinical excellence and access to patients and biospecimen samples into basic and translational scientific success. Expertise in hemostasis/coagulation, thrombosis, platelet biology, transfusion medicine, and/or resuscitation medicine is a plus.
Candidate will be responsible for contributing to a cohesive coagulopathy program, collaborating with other leaders in hematology and transfusion medicine to develop an integrated enterprise coagulation presence; serving as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on sponsored research grants and on original research projects; conceptualizing, planning, designing, implementing and conducting research studies in the area of coagulopathy in trauma and surgical patients; developing and writing grant proposals to seek and obtain funding to support research program; securing and maintaining NIH R01 or equivalent funding; writing and publishing research in high quality peer-reviewed, scientific journals; attending and presenting research at national and international scientific conferences; developing national and international scholarly reputation; instructing and mentoring junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents and fellow trainees; participating in division, department, college and university committees and initiatives.

Department/Division Overview
The Department of Surgery, led by Dr. Timothy Pawlik, boasts a broad array of clinical, research and educational opportunities. The department is home to multiple R01 funded researchers, several training grants, and with over $15.5M in NIH funding, was ranked #11 in the Blue Ridge Rankings among departments of surgery nationally. Our investigators collectively occupy over 25,000 square feet of laboratory space within and around the medical center campus.
Formed in 2006, the Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn provides surgical care for multiple trauma, burns, urgent and emergent general surgery conditions and surgical critical care. The clinical, translational and basic science research efforts of our clinical scientists and dedicated basic science researchers investigate sepsis, trauma and surgical emergencies.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) – Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
