Job Summary
Job Description
To learn the show from the Associate Director and attend full time in the rehearsal room and during tech;
To carry out scheduling and administrative tasks during rehearsals to support the Associate Director as necessary;
To tour full time with the show and be an active leader amongst the touring company;
Following the principals’ first performances, to focus on rehearsing the Understudies and Swings into their cover tracks alongside the Resident Choreographer and Musical Director, including teching them into the show where necessary;
To lead on the scheduling of weekly rehearsals, note sessions, and one-to-ones with the cast of the show whilst incorporating feedback from the Resident Choreographer, Musical Director and Associate Director;
To lead on running any sections of the show as may be required;
To schedule and lead regular meetings between the Company Manager, Resident Choreographer, and Musical Director;
To support the Associate Director and feedback to them on the maintenance of the show and to give their notes as required;
To conduct show watches a maximum of 4 times a week and provide notes as necessary, and to ensure regular show watches of the Understudies and Swings in their various cover tracks;
To show watch each Understudy and Swing when they debut a new cover track and provide notes as necessary;
To attend and assist with the ‘put-in’ to each new touring venue;
To be prepared to attend in each venue at short notice if there is an emergency;
To contribute proactively and positively to maintaining the wellbeing of the touring cast;
To always ensure the safest possible working environment, and that all Health & Safety procedure and practice is adhered to as directed by the production and stage management team;
Any other reasonable duty that would normally fall within the remit of a Resident Director based on industry norms and practice.
Job Requirements
Person Specification:
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with excellent attention to detail;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Exceptional leadership skills;
A proactive and flexible attitude;
Previous Resident Director or applicable directing experience on a first-class UK tour;
Previous directing experience on a commercial musical is desirable;
The ability to work well with actors and creative team;
The ability to work under pressure and effectively prioritise;
