Job Summary

Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Materiel Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers’ portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.

The Missile Warning, Tracking & Defense (MWTD) Mission Integration Department within DSG provides systems engineering, integration and test (SEIT) support to the Resilient Missile Warning & Tracking (RMWT) acquisition program office (SSC/SYD 84/MT). The RMWT program is responsible for the full lifecycle development and fielding of a Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) constellation of missile warning and tracking satellites. As the Resilient Missile Warning & Tracking Epoch 1- Lead SEIT Engineer (Senior Project Engineer – Acquisition & Systems Engineering), you will provide systems engineering leadership to the Epoch 1 SEIT effort within the RMWT program. The role involves working closely with the acquisition program office (SSC/SYD 84/MT), the RMWT Epoch 1 space contractor and other FFRDC, SE&I and SETA contractors to execute a disciplined systems engineering approach to the RMWT Epoch 1 technical baseline integration, verification & validation (V&V), and launch & early orbit phase (LEOP) of the program. The role encompasses the full range of the systems engineering, integration and test (SEIT) discipline, including requirements and interfaces management, development and execution of program V&V approach, the application of specialty engineering, cost, schedule, and risk & opportunity management. In this role you will act as the primary Aerospace liaison to the government for RMWT Epoch 1 systems engineering.

The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Work closely with the government and contractor teams to ensure requirement decomposition adequacy and to develop and execute the program verification & validation (V&V) approach
  • Proactively identify risk and opportunity trades and present findings to government decision makers; participate in contractor and government risk and opportunity boards
  • Leverage subject matter experts in specialty engineering disciplines to ensure the technical adequacy of the RMWT Epoch 1 contractors’ engineering approach
  • Guide teams of SMEs to assess contractor work products for adequacy and adherence to program requirements
  • Provide technical support to interface finalization, giver/receiver (G/R) management, and program systems engineering processes, e.g., engineering review boards (ERBs), configuration control boards (CCBs), etc. technical exchanges with key external organizations
  • Work closely with RMWT ground contractor(s) to facilitate the transition of the Epoch 1 baseline into the RWMT Ground Modernization & Integration (GMI) ground baseline
  • Work closely with Aerospace management to define RMWT Epoch 1 SEIT priorities; assist with oversight and management of program staffing and budgets for the Aerospace RMWT Epoch 1 SEIT line of effort (LOE)

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements for the Resilient Missile Warning & Tracking Epoch 1- Lead SEIT Engineer (Senior Project Engineer – Systems Engineering – Acquisition & Systems Engineering):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or other relevant field is required
  • A minimum of (12) years of progressively more responsible experience in systems engineering or program management is required
  • Experience in the acquisition and development of space and ground systems
  • Experience with the application of industry standards for space system development such as the IEEE Standard for System Development Lifecycle (IEEE/ISO/IEC 15288)
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain trusted relationships with government customers, SETA contractors, and key stakeholders under minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for interactions at all levels of corporate and government leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to work adaptively on multiple tasks in a small, diverse team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel domestically, approximately once a month
  • This position requires a current and active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

  • Strong knowledge with Missile Warning & Tracking mission area, architecture and performance
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and digital technical baselines
  • Proficiency with rapid acquisition models and best practices especially as applied to DoD programs
  • Program office and management experience; experience directing matrixed technical support teams

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
