To provide direct instructional support to teachers and students integrating Fine Arts and bilingual/dual language instruction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Instructs bilingual, English as a second language (ESL), performing arts, visual arts, and general education teachers in research based practices for students.
  • Demonstrates lessons for teachers as appropriate.
  • Assists school staffs in the development, implementation and assessment of fine arts integration education.
  • Use of creative teaching strategies to increase student outcomes.
  • Serves on District committees and task forces as decided by the Executive Director of fine arts.
  • Assists teachers in identifying programs with the development of bilingual literacy through fine arts.
  • Cooperates in the development and implementation of the District program of instruction.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, assignments, units and projects in harmony with curriculum goals and communicates the objectives to students.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.

DUTIES: In addition to the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must perform the following duties:

  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within area of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: The minimum expectations for this job are as follows:

  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone.
  • Knowledge of APS community, computer system, financial procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.
  • Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students.
  • Knowledge of effective classroom management techniques.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition.
  • Knowledge of educational foundations, assessment, instructional planning, curriculum, materials and school-community relations.
  • Advanced computer skills.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English).
  • Experience with computer/technology education.
  • Experience in developmental bilingual education, including Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Education.
  • Background in performing or visual arts.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE: The minimum requirements for this job are as follows:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid NM Teacher’s Level II or Level III license appropriate to teaching assignment:
  • Elementary: 200 K-8 license
  • Middle school: 200 K-8 license or 350 5-9 mid level license or 300 7-12 secondary license
  • High school: 300 secondary license
  • Bilingual Endorsement and Fine Arts Endorsement.
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience teaching students in bilingual/dual language grades K-12 .
