Position description

The Security Director Assistance, Asia is a senior leadership position responsible for directing and leading the Security Assistance team for Asia region. As a key member of the global security assistance management team, the Security Director Assistance ensures alignment with the global standards, procedures and priorities set by the Global Security Director, Assistance.

The Security Director, Assistance leads the security assistance function in the region and oversees the delivery of market-leading applied security risk management and advisory, incident management, and crisis response services to support Intl SOS clients, working in close partnership with senior operations colleagues across the region. The Security Director, Assistance ensures effective resolution of all clients’ requests for security advice and assistance to the highest levels of customer satisfaction.

The Security Director, Assistance is responsible for the functional leadership and ongoing development of the regional Security Assistance team, professionally managing a team of Security Managers and Specialists.

The Security Director, Assistance works closely with the Security Director, Information and Analysis to establish a seamless integration between the key pillars of our security services, facilitating an intelligence-led assistance platform. They ensure operational planning and decision-making in both businesses as usual and crisis scenarios are being fed by, and aligned with, the analytical position and outlook.

The Security Director, Assistance will closely collaborate with the relevant Assistance Centre leadership personnel from the Operations, Medical, Air Transportation and Travel Assistance teams ensuring the highest standards of security operational service delivery. Additionally, the Security Director, Assistance will oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of relevant security operational processes and ensuring the regional Security Assistance capability is scaled to meet client exposure and demand in line with global standards, regional security dynamics and commercial priorities.

Key Responsibilites

Core Client & Internal Support

  • Oversee and own regional security assistance service delivery to support client organisations and their people in high-stress environments or situations.
  • Establish a close coordination with relevant senior stakeholders in the Assistance Centre to ensure effective management of all client requests for security advice and assistance, including complex security arrangements and evacuations, to the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee and continuously improve a robust regional operational preparedness programme, working closely with various internal stakeholders, to ensure the security assistance platform is scaled and equipped to meet client exposure and demand both in business as usual and crisis scenarios.
  • Oversee Intl. SOS regional concept of operations and advice positions in Asia ensuring both are clear to clients and internal stakeholders to inform timely decision-making.
  • Ensure a broad and diverse network of local security partners is maintained in line with global standards; develop network development plans as appropriate.
  • Responsible for resource allocation across core security activity, including situational awareness, case management, consulting delivery, network development and operational readiness, according to agreed priorities, with the appropriate balance of effort between longer-term developments and current events.
  • Ensure the Security Assistance team is given appropriate case management direction for Asia on a standing and dynamic basis, in close coordination with the Security Information and Analysis team.
  • Work in collaboration with the Security Director Intelligence and Analysis to ensure our Security Information & advisory is delivered in line with our regional analytical outlook during both businesses as usual and times of crisis and foster one-team mentality between regional Assistance and Intelligence & Analysis teams.
  • Maintain understanding of the regional security situation in order to maintain readiness to pre-emptively deploy.
  • Direction and deployment of Incident Management Team(s) to provide on-the-ground support to clients or regional assistance.
  • Ensure implementation of the Global Quality Management Program across regional operations.
  • Define and drive regional collective training, performance management and development.
  • Oversee professional feedback to Security Managers, Assistance for deliverables relating to Asia building both risk management and security best practice in addition to subject matter knowledge of the region in the team.
  • Direct the maintenance and building of client-facing Secure Hotel database ensuring it is up to date, compliant with group standards, and reflective of the current risk environment and scaled to Intl. SOS’ analytical and operational position.

Consulting Delivery & Sales, Marketing Support

  • Oversee Security Services support to Consulting Delivery & Sales, Marketing within the region.
  • As required, deliver safety and security trainings and workshops for senior audiences – especially those focused on Asia– as well as engage in client specific security assistance consultancy tasks as required.
  • Support the Sales and Marketing teams in the articulation of International SOS’ services and providing senior functional expertise in regional client facing forums such as webinars and podcasts.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Extremely strong knowledge of security risk management best practices and principals across a diversity of risk environments, supported by in-country experience in challenging/hostile environments.
  • Significant knowledge of directing, planning and managing complex Security Assistance operations.
  • Very strong knowledge of the political and security landscape within Asia.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to explain complex situations and advice to non-expert audiences in English.
  • Ability to critically analyse multiple streams of security, logistics and threat-based information under time pressure and produce actionable advice and plans of action.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural, cross functional, global, matrixed business.
  • Knowledge of and experience in managing all stages of an operational intelligence cycle.
  • A self-starter with a highly developed sense of urgency and mission focus
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office Suite and other applications.

Required Work Experience

  • Typically, at least 10+ years’ experience in Security Assistance delivery and planning including deployed experience in hostile and/or challenging environments in military, police, government, NGO or private sector roles ideally in Asia.
  • Team leadership and management experience, ideally including remote management or hybrid working.
  • Experience in planning, managing and conducting complex security assistance operations.
  • Experience in writing to senior management and decision-makers.
  • Experience working internationally and managing cross-culturally.
  • Experience in the risk management field, especially when applied to security risk management.
  • Public speaking and training delivery experience.
  • Business development, consultancy, and sales experience.
  • Significant experience in conducting profile specific security risk assessments.
  • Quality management experience.
  • Crisis Management experience.

Required Qualifications

  • Educated to a degree level (or relevant professional training & experience) in a field related to security studies, war studies, international politics, international relations or similar.
  • Accreditation by regionally recognised security or risk management body preferred.

Required Languages

  • Excellent spoken and written English language.
  • Other Asian language proficiency desirable.

Travel/Rotation Requirements

  • Some travel, sometimes on urgent request.
  • Periodic evening/weekend work based on operational requirements.
