Summary of the position

The senior advocacy officer will be working with advocacy and communications staff in Turkey officer, as well as other SAMS country offices and headquarters in the planning, development, and implementation of SAMS’s advocacy initiatives in line with SAMS’s advocacy strategy. This will be made in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders, including governments, UN entities, Syrian NGOs, and the Syrian local community.

The senior advocacy officer will also help in Drafting advocacy material for SAMS, including letters, reports, and policy documents. He/she will also participate in Providing advocacy recommendations on issues, methods, and approaches, and anticipate and resolve communications/ public relations issues/problems.

Key relationships:

Grants officer, IM and Assessment officer, Information Officer, Field Officer, and staff.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

Advocacy and communication:

  • work with the Advocacy manager on the design and development of SAMS’s Turkey advocacy plans, initiatives, and campaigns in line with our strategic plan.
  • develop and implement advocacy components in projects within SAMS with the support of relevant program teams.
  • Ensure coordination among various departments (programs, advocacy, and information), and consistency in messaging.
  • Coordinate with program departments (e.g., Grants, projects, Information, Security) regarding updates.
  • Coordinate with Syria field officers regarding updates.
  • Keep up to date with new developments in Syrian policy at national and local levels.
  • Track humanitarian community-wide reports and policy briefs and provide summary reports to advocacy staff from SAMS.
  • Produce relevant advocacy products, including letters, talking points, press statements, Op-eds , policy documents, meeting minutes, and information briefs
  • Develop and monitor relevant KPIs related to advocacy and campaigns.
  • Provide a monthly report about advocacy efforts and humanitarian situations.

Representation, Networking, and Profile building:

  • Maintain and strengthen existing partnership networks and support joint actions, including developing new partners to further Syrian issues at different Syrian levels.
  • Build public relations with various media channels (e.g., TV channels, radio channels, agencies. Etc.)
  • Represent SAMS in media outlets, conferences, and meetings, upon request. With many stakeholders, including the UN, donor community, and diplomats. Etc.
  • Widely raise the profile and visibility of SAMS.
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key policymakers and stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver oral presentations to various audiences.

Research and dissemination:

  • Helped with research and writing reports and papers as per SAMS advocacy and research needs.
  • Contribute to the production of promotional materials, articles, blog posts, social media revision, and reports for external and internal publications, including SAMS’s website.

THE CANDIDATE’S REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory Qualifications required:

  • A university degree is required, with a preference for degrees in journalism, international relations, or law.
  • A minimum of three years of proven experience in the humanitarian field in the Syrian context
  • Two years of proven experience in roles such as human rights advisor, partnership and communications officer, advocacy officer, and media and documentation officer is desirable

Languages:

  • Fluent written and spoken in Arabic.
  • Upper-Intermediate written and spoken English.
