Position Summary:

The full-time Senior Communications Manager will lead SI’s growing communications function. Social Impact intends to fill the vacancy with either a Communications Manager or a Senior Communications manager, based on the experience of the selected candidate. This role will place the right candidate at the forefront of executing Social Impact’s priorities related to the company’s strategic plan. The Manager plays a key role in promoting the company’s brand, services, and mission to key stakeholders. The Manager will develop written and visual communications, media, and marketing materials that continually build the company’s brand and maintains its reputation as a seal of excellence in planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning, and capacity building services.

We are seeking an organized, creative, self-motivated individual with outstanding writing skills, strong project management experience, and a passion for international development. This is a unique opportunity for a talented individual to have exposure to senior management and work on key, strategic initiatives in a fast-paced, growing organization.

This position is full-time, reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) but requires liaison and effective partnering across the organization to be successful.

Depending on the candidate’s experience level and qualifications, this vacancy can be Manager-level. To qualify for this level of position, candidates will have a Master’s degree and 3 years of relevant work experience (7 years of preferred experience) managing and creating communications products, ideally in the international development sector.

**Please Note: This position responsibilities entail facilitation of engagement with other staff, clients, and stakeholders who are in the DC, MD, and/or VA (DMV) area. Only candidates located in the DMV area are eligible to apply.

Responsibilities:

Developing and Disseminating Communications Products

  • Lead the preparation, production, and dissemination of both routine and complex outreach products/messages to strategically position SI with key stakeholders.
  • Acquire and maintain a detailed knowledge of the company’s work and results and utilize this knowledge to promote the company’s brand.
  • Write and/or edit communications materials, including success stories, blogs, and other briefing materials for external dissemination across all approved social media platforms. This includes working with internal teams to brainstorm ideas for these materials that are in line with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Lead the preparation, compilation, organization, and dissemination of content to support the release of quarterly internal and external newsletters.
  • Monitor SI’s website and ensure that content both captures SI’s historical performance and is updated to reflect SI’s latest and best work.
  • Support internal teams to communicate SI’s work to external audiences via the company’s webinar series.
  • Oversee the production and dissemination of multimedia materials for US and global dissemination through web, broadcasts, podcasts, and other outlets.
  • Ensure Social Impact maintains a constant and active presence on social media through regular engagement on topics of relevance to the company.

Managing the Communications Function

  • Periodically develop/update the company’s communications plan as needed and work with the COO and other internal and external stakeholders to execute this plan.
  • Monitor the results of communications initiatives and report results to the COO and other members of the Senior Management Team, as necessary. Serve as the primary point of contact for specific marketing events/opportunities. Develop communications packages and materials for use at such events.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors (e.g., website developers, editors, graphic designers) and other stakeholders (e.g., media organizations) who may be helpful in the execution of SI’s communication plan.
  • Liaise between internal teams and the web developer for any major updates required to SI’s website.

Communications Policies and Guidelines

  • Be the custodian of Social Impact’s Brand and Style Guide. Ensure that it is up to date and used consistently across the organization.
  • Develop and disseminate policies and guidance as needed to ensure consistency in communications practices across the company.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English, Writing, or related subject.
  • Senior Manager: Minimum of five years professional communications experience (11 years of preferred experience), in communications development, production, and strategy. Communications experience in an international development organization or government contracting context strongly preferred.
  • Manager: Minimum of three years professional communications experience (seven years of preferred experience), in communications development, production, and strategy. Communications experience in an international development organization or government contracting context strongly preferred.
  • Excellent English language writing and editing skills with content writing experience for all platforms, including but not limited to writing and editing blogs, thought pieces, social media posts, and other outlets as needed.
  • Experience writing communication products around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion events and emerging issues.
  • Strategic and creative mindset.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage and oversee various communications projects and tasks.
  • Knowledge of, and experience with applications typically used by communications professionals such as: MailChimp, Constant Contact, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva, and Publisher.
  • Experience working with website content management systems, such as WordPress.
  • Highly computer literate with high level proficiency in MS Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.

Pay Range Details

$79,420.00 – $150,000.00 Annually

This base salary range applies to Manager and Senior Manager positions at Social Impact.

The range displayed does not include bonuses, overtime, compensation time, or other similar additions to base salaries. SI’s offer is based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to years of experience, education level, market-based compensation analysis, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for a candidate to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
