About the role
The post holder will need to be able to start 22nd January 2025 or as soon as thereafter. We plan to conduct tests and interviews in the week commencing 9th December 2024.
This role is working within the Professional Services Team in the Department of Mathematics, serving an UG cohort of over 1000 students.The Department has a large cohort of UG and PG taught students as well as a thriving research student community. By utilising networks and the pastoral care system already in place, the role holder will be able to collaborate effectively across a range of colleagues, networks and students, which is essential for success in the role.
The post holder will be expected to be adaptable, quickly assimilate information, not be afraid to ask questions and find out information and establish their own support networks across UCL. An excellent eye for detail, superb organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively are essential.
The role holder, in partnership with the Departmental Tutor and colleagues, is responsible for supporting our students and enhancing their experience to ensure and improve student success. As a vital member of the Teaching and Learning teams, the role holder’s responsibilities extend to collaborating with other colleagues across the Faculty, Student Support and Well-being teams and beyond.
Our student’s well-being, support and success are at the core of an exceptional student experience. The post holder is expected to significantly influence and enrich our approach in this area, contributing innovative ideas to strengthen our student welfare support. This will involve enhancing student well-being, collaborating with the student body and staff to organise events and activities that enhance the student experience, creating an inviting and welcoming environment, supporting the student tutoring system, and ensuring access to relevant guidance (or developing it) to assist in maintaining the mental well being of our students.
The role-holder must quickly learn about and understand the Department and build a knowledge base of other UCL services to which students may be referred for support, such as the Careers Service, Student’s Union, the Student Support and Well-being team, and the Medical Centre.

The combination of application form, interview, and test is designed to assess all aspects of the person’s specifications, ensuring that the selected candidate is the best fit for the role.The test comprises three components, and you will have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete all three components: a written English test, an in-tray test, and an Excel test. All components test spelling, attention to detail, accuracy and IT skills. The Excel test will involve formulae. All SRS post-holders are expected to contribute to the division’s major events and activities. The precise duties to be undertaken will be agreed upon between the staff member and their line manager.
